The Kings announced just after Sunday's game that Hassan Whiteside and Tyler Honeycutt have been assigned to the Reno Bighorns of the NBA D-League. The annual D-League Showcase is actually being held in Reno next week, so a broader audience will get a look at the two prospects.

I don't even know what to think

It's a good move
if you can separate it from all of the other shenanigans going on right now. There is not much time for practice with the compressed schedule, which completely limits opportunities for Whiteside and Honeycutt. This gives them both a chance to play.
section214 - January 1, 2012
I just hope more intimate exposure to Whiteside doesn't negatively impact Honeycutt
prowseinthehouse - January 1, 2012
I'd rather see Honeycutt go on his own
I really don’t know what they intend on doing with Whiteside. As soon as he may ever be ready to actually play a minute in the NBA his contract will be up anyways, and why bother resigning him?
prowseinthehouse - January 1, 2012
I don't think that they have to share a bed,
though this is the Maloofs that we’re talking about…
section214 - January 1, 2012
hopefully they can get some run.
i wish more teams did this with developing players.
TrojanCBB - January 1, 2012
Hopefully
Whiteside has a better attitude about it this time around. I recall him complaining about it last year. He doesn’t have many more chances to prove he can stick in this league.

Good deal for Honeycutt & Whiteside. They get some PT in Reno.
On the other hand, is this move being made to open a roster spot? Possibly AK? Just a thought.
SayWhat? - January 1, 2012
AK is staying in Russia
Reke_Havoc13 - January 1, 2012
They are sending DMC to Russia for AK..........
X_47 - January 1, 2012
Big Horns just got better defensively.
KeonClark - January 1, 2012
Kings just sent their best passer to Reno
KeonClark - January 1, 2012
It is no longer ok
We don’t have Hassan Whiteside anymore
amiles2233 - January 1, 2012
Because it worked out so well last time :/
Eh, Westphal/Musselman, musselman/Westphal what’s the difference?
Allbenji - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Paul Mokeski is coaching them now
section214 - January 1, 2012
Ahh my bad
I guess I better brush up on Reno Bighorn basketball :)

Long road trip on the horizon
Team has determined these two won’t be playing. Instead of shuttling them hotels, send them to D-League to play some ball.
bignerd - January 1, 2012
This probably means Cousins is traveling with the team
Without Whiteside bigman depth is extremely low.
Scirocco - January 1, 2012
I didn't realize that Whiteside had any impact on bigman depth
section214 - January 1, 2012
he just has an impact of the ok-ness of the team
amiles2233 - January 1, 2012
Well its not OK anymore because we don't have Hassan Whiteside
Scirocco - January 1, 2012
I hope we we keep both long term
Ninja King - January 1, 2012
I'm enthusiastic about Honeycutt after he's had time in the weight room
I fear that Whiteside does not have the head for the NBA game.
section214 - January 1, 2012
Yeah, Honeycutt just looked like he was in a little over his head.
Really jittery. More time at a high-level will help him a lot.
tomroadrunner - January 1, 2012
But he can juggle with basketballs, and some fun at practise is not to be underestimated.
rubenho - January 2, 2012
agreed
Shizzo - January 2, 2012
I have
highhopes for Honeycutt. He showed a desire for an all-around game at UCLA to include a desire to pass and defend. I know each player is in individual, but the professional development of players from UCLA also gives him a little extra intrigue.Love, Holiday, Collison, Afflalo, Mbah a Moute, Westbrook.
All of these guys have met or exceeded the potential that they showed at UCLA in my opinion. I for one think this bodes well for Honeycutt Cheerios as soon as he puts a little meat on that frame (as Section said) and gains some experience.
I for one, will be watching those box scores. Go Bighorns!
Jim Les - January 1, 2012
not a fan of the "honeycutt cheerios" nickname
we gotta do better than that
Shizzo - January 2, 2012
This makes a lot of sense
A lot of road games coming back, and as section214 points out, with the compressed schedule, this doesn’t leave much time for practice, so sending them to Reno where they can play basketball in a competitive setting is probably best. I know Hassan had some trouble fitting in down there last time he went, maybe having a teammate with him will help him be more comfortable too.
Aykis16 - January 1, 2012
I have high hopes for Hassan Whiteside
He has the potential to lead the league in blocks & be DPOY. He just needs time to play and develop. There are few players out there that have his length, strength and athleticism. Ben Wallace was an average player in his first four seasons, then became a perennial all-star.
swooshrc - January 2, 2012
I was really excited about Whiteside when we drafted him.
But I don’t think he cares enough. Not right now. Maybe he isn’t a competitor, maybe he is too nice, too young? I don’t know what it is, but nothing about him gives me faith he will develop. I hope I am wrong…dead wrong, because all of the other tools seem to be there.
Jim Les - January 2, 2012
Om
I hope so too.
chenp22 - January 2, 2012
lol.
Jim Les - January 2, 2012
DPOY?!
!!!
Shizzo - January 2, 2012
Seems like the right move.
Must be a smokescreen for what’s really going on.
Kfan in Korea - January 2, 2012
Hm.
From Honeycutt’s Twitter.
