The Kings went into halftime with a 52-50 lead. During that half they played some very good basketball, particularly in transition. Tyreke Evans was on fire early, just carving up the Rockets defense and running the offense very well. Tyreke finished the game with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals, but nobody really managed to step up and help him when the offense stagnated in the 2nd half. DeMarcus Cousins was absolutely shut down by Samuel Dalembert, being held to just 4 points (1-7 shooting) and 4 rebounds in 18 minutes, and John Salmons had yet another terrible night with 4 points on 10 shots.
Houston came out on fire in the 2nd half, spurred by the play of Kyle Lowry, Luis Scola, and Samuel Dalembert. Scola (21 points, 11 rebounds) and Dalembert (21 points, 16 rebounds, 4 blocks) killed the Kings on the offensive glass, combining for 16 of Houston's 18 offensive rebounds. Dalembert had one of his "I'm actually the best Center in the NBA, don't watch any other of my games" performances, altering a bunch of shots and eliminating the Kings post threat. The huge advantage for Houston on the offensive glass led to 21 2nd chance points for the Rockets. The offensive boards also hurt the Kings from getting out and running like they did so well in the first half.
Kyle Lowry was the star for Houston however, running the offense to a T and making some absolute huge shots (including a set three from almost halfcourt) in the 4th quarter. Lowry finished with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 2 steals despite a slow start. Throughout the broadcast, Jerry Reynolds kept expounding his virtues and even said that Lowry is currently a better player than Deron Williams. At least for this season, that is true.
The Kings did manage to get a solid contribution from their bench, getting 11 points and 8(!) rebounds from Donté Greene, 11 points from Francisco Garcia, 7 points and 4 boards from Jason Thompson, and 13 points, 5 assists and a couple of highlight alley-oop passes from Isaiah Thomas. Regarding Isaiah and Donté Greene, both should be probably be playing more than they are at this point, at the expense of Jimmer Fredette (who has no confidence) and John Salmons (who has too much confidence). I still like Isaiah off the bench, but Donté has been our best Small Forward over 12 games, and it isn't even close.
Despite the loss the team looked a lot better, and it must be remembered that they are playing without their best scorer in Marcus Thornton and a great defender and rebounder in Hayes. You could also make the case that they are playing without John Salmons and I wouldn't disagree with you other than the fact that Salmons not playing might have more of a positive effect than him playing at this point. I honestly hope Salmons manages to turn it around, because right now we're stuck with him, for better or for worse.
The Kings play again tomorrow in Dallas and then head to Minnesota on Monday to finish this road trip. On the television broadcast, Grant Napear made it seem like the Kings were targeting Monday for Thornton's return, so expect him to be out again tomorrow.

At least of the rest of the week was easy..

Needless to say, PW getting canned has been incredible for me.

When you're up against Optimus Primo, you take what you can get.
To be honest, though, I was hoping you guys would roughly split so I could gain a couple of games on each of you. After the monster nights by Dally, Love, and D. Williams against me, though, it’s not such a sure thing anyways.

Jimmer needs to

Restart
He needs to look at stats and realize it’s ok to shoot as many shots as salmons and hickson or at least half as many. He does well distributing the ball but sometimes needs to dribble a little more and look for his own. Obviously not an original post here.

Kings Statement (I wish)
SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Jan. 14, 2012 — "Whenever a new season begins, in any sport, there is great hope that everything will progress in only a steady, upward direction. As we all know, it seldom happens like that in this life!
As coaches, we can only ask that our players do everything they can to improve themselves as individuals and teammates. If they do this with all their hearts, we live with the results.
However, when a player continually, aggressively, is unwilling/unable to embrace traveling in the same direction as his team, it cannot be ignored.
In the best interest of our team as we go forward, John Salmons has been directed by me, with the support of management, to stay home from the Dallas game tonight."

Aykis16 - January 13, 2012
Also, two things are true about the Houston Rockets' announcers
They’re awful, and they think that our Isaiah Thomas is the son of NBA Legend Isaiah Thomas. I guess that’s not really two separate things.
AnotherStupidSN - January 13, 2012
I'm pretty sure they were joking..
CoolFinity - January 13, 2012
Probably not.
And, yes, they are awful.
But so are the vast majority of NBA home announcers. Just the way it is.
Only_A_Lad - January 13, 2012
I actually prefer the ones most people call awful
The stupid screw ups, the stuff that probably shouldn’t be said on live tv, the stupid giggles, bad video editing, talking about something completely irrelevant.
The only time they really annoy me is the extreme homer announcers
wallywagon11 - January 13, 2012
Blazers are the worst. Can't even listen to them. Have to mute the TV.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 13, 2012
the one thing I will always love though
is the whole “Coach/Player X is distraught, bewildered and confused!” or whatever he guy says (he changes it here and there)
wallywagon11 - January 13, 2012
He's such a big homer. And he believe what he says
Celts are homers, but kind of funny and tongue in cheek.
Lakers are pretty knowledgeable and good.
Warriors announcers are as painful as Portland for me. Every play their guy got fouled and every foul is a bad call.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 13, 2012
oh forgot about Fitz (Warriors announcer)
he’s so annoying Warriors fans hate him. Forgot that guy.
wallywagon11 - January 13, 2012
When I lived in Portland (2001-09)
and had to watch the Kings on Season Pass, the worst were the Nuggets & Pacers announcers. Now, the worst is Walton (why did the Kings hire him?!).
richie88 - January 13, 2012
They hired him and Gray as misdirection
They figured that we would be so focused on how much they suck that we would overlook how much the team sucks.
section214 - January 14, 2012
It worked for awhile.
Slam_Dunk - January 14, 2012
Well, that's what I mean.
You can probably count the number of non-homer announcers on one hand.
My favorite announcers are the ones for the Knicks. Walt Frazier and Mike Breen. Don’t mind the Lakers peeps, either.
Worst are Spurs, Utah and Portland, IMO. Houston might be in there, but I have a hard time judging them. I just kinda wish Bill Worrell would retire.
Drexler isn’t so bad, though. He says dumb stuff but it’s just sort of funny.
Only_A_Lad - January 13, 2012
Frazier is so terrible/awesome
Like the Lakers and actually think the Raptors are pretty entertaining but perhaps not for the right reasons
Can’t stand Spurs or Heat announcers (at least old Heat announcers, haven’t listened in awhile)
wallywagon11 - January 13, 2012
Agreed on Raptors.
CoolFinity - January 13, 2012
Utah is my least favorite.
Worst homers of them all IMO.
CoolFinity - January 13, 2012
Portland is maybe the worst for me.
I remember being really bothered by the Phoenix guys at some point, as well.
AnotherStupidSN - January 13, 2012
Grant Napear is the worst for me
SharkKings49 - January 13, 2012
The Houston announcers both agreed that Chandler Parsons is "the biggest surprise in the NBA this season".
I mean, I’m glad the kid is taking advantage of his opportunity, but…
Yeah, the crazy homer stuff and the unnecessary dumping on the opponent’s players is mostly what bugs me when watching another team’s feed. I actually think our guys keep it pretty classy in general, though I’m sure their over-exuberance is annoying for other teams’ fans.
AnotherStupidSN - January 13, 2012
Oh everyone out of Sacramento hates Jerry for the crazy homer stuff
wallywagon11 - January 13, 2012
Agree
I am sure our guys aren’t perfect. But I don’t mind excitement and exuberance from other team’s announcers. They can celebrate and it may be irksome when we are losing, but I understand. It’s good announcing. It’s the super-homer comments and degrading the other team or just making ignorant statements that bother me.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 13, 2012
I always liked it when Snapper Jones and Walton would spend 15 minutes per game talking about fishing. That was excellent, because the only thing more exciting than fishing is hearing other people talk about fishing. Also, Snapper is an old term for, well…um…we’re not allowed to get into it on this site.

section214 - January 14, 2012
I didn't want the Kings to draft Jimmer but he shows promise

blknblu - January 14, 2012
Just a question
Was that the order you had them in front as well?
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
My list, in order
Irving, Williams, Kanter, Knight, Leonard, Vesely, Valanciunas, Walker, Thompson, Biyombo, Motiejunas, Fredette, Morris, Burks.
section214 - January 14, 2012
I see
So, adding to your comment above, by the time the 7th pick came, you don’t have Biyombo up there, who, IIRC, was also available. Not really important, just making an observation.
IMO, I would have had Kemba over Leonard, and Fredette over Biyombo, Motiejunas, and Thompson. I have a thing for guys who can score (which seems hypocritical since I have Motiejunas so low, right?)
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
I feel like an idiot for just saying "hey whatever the Kings braintrust thinks"
I knew I couldn’t judge Kawhi rationally (love him) and didn’t see how Kemba could work with Reke (feel like an idiot). However really feel dumb with Knight thinking basically “Well if the Kings basketball people aren’t a big fan, maybe they have good reason.” Although technically Knight has been pretty spotty so far running the Pistons (shooting great though).
wallywagon11 - January 14, 2012
Yeah, it's hard to get a good read on a FO to see their reasoning for doing things
No move is ever going to be universally agreed upon as good or bad (except the Salmons deal), especially draft picks.
I like Kawhi, but during draft time, I thought he was going to be a liability on offense; so far he’s been better than I thought.
I liked Kemba, but I also had that same concern as he was also a ball-dominant scorer, and yet with CHA, he’s been a pretty good distributor.
And I thought the exact same thing about Knight.
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
Correct on Biyombo
Also, I should note that I have as much confidence in those rankings now as I had then (0%). Still way too early to tell.
section214 - January 14, 2012
Very true
We can’t truly look back at this until three years from now. This lockout stuff doesn’t help this years draft class either

We all know jimmer will be fine offensively
I think what’s more important is his progress on the defensive end. And he showed today that he has made noticeable progress in a short amount of time. Shouldn’t we be encouraged?
Salmons knows that he’s struggling. And it seems as though he’s trying too hard (taking tough shots) to get things going. We lack vets who can actually talk to him and get him to settle down a bit. Chuck talked about everyone holding each other accountable. Who’s going to hold Salmons accountable?
amack10 - January 13, 2012

KINGKENJI - January 13, 2012

F3RRi3R - January 14, 2012
true about Petrie
I don’t know what the hell Petrie saw in Salmon. I honestly didn’t hate the pick up as much as most. But all I read on this site before the season started was all he does is dribble and dribble and force bad shots. Damn he can kill momentum and flow. But if you guys knew it, why the hell didn’t Petrie, sad. Coach needs to grow apair and start Thomas over Jimmer, I would even start him over M.T. Love M.T. but he’s a pure shooter and is streaky like all pure shooters. We need a passing guard in the starting lineup. And Thomas is the best we have. And bench Salmons sorry a** for Garcia. Garcia takes bad shots some time but nothing like Salmon, and Salmon Def seems to be bad as well. Except for that late guarding of Stephen Jackson a few games back, he’s been less than average and that’s his strength?! That starting lineup killed us tonight in the first quarter. Coach brought in Garcia and Thomas, and we took the lead. Second half started with Jimmer and Salmon and again, and another hole was dug. Too much the second time to come back from.
Thomas
Reke
Garcia
Hickson
DMC
Don’t like Reke starting at S.F. he loses his size advantage. Don’t mind seeing it sometime but not a good starting lineup especially on Def.
kendogfunky - January 13, 2012
I agree with most of what you said
Except I don’t think Garcia takes bad shots. Most of the time he’s open with his feet set. He makes mistakes on the court but usually not bad shots.
Salmons should be benched. Period. If Smart doesn’t see that then he might be no better than PW. Start IT, Reke, Donte, JT, & Cousins. I think JT would be better in the starting line-up because he’s a better defender than JJ.
Allbenji - January 14, 2012 via mobile
Here is how the conversation went:
PW: Geoff, I think we should draft Jimmer. I think he will be everything we have been looking for in a PG.
Geoff: Well, there is no question he can make baskets.
PW: Hear me out. Since Jimmer will be our PG, then there is no reason for us to keep Beno. You’ve said yourself, Beno is weak on defense.
Geoff: Yes, I’ve said that. But, how is Jimmer going to help the team there, PW?
PW (almost giggling): Here is the good part. I understand Salmons is available. He will fill a void we have at the three and offer us better defense, which you say we need.
Geoff: I don’t know about this.
PW (pleading) : Please, please, pretty please, for me
Geoff: Okay, since you put it that way. I’ll see what I can do.
Slam_Dunk - January 14, 2012
More like -
PW: It’s not my job to make the GM happy. It’s the GM’s job to make me happy.
GP: Okie dokie.
section214 - January 14, 2012
He always catches the ball and stands there for 5 secs with his head down
so frustrating, he kills the ball movement. Bring him off the bench and start Greene. Never thought I would say that.
F3RRi3R - January 14, 2012

Parsons made Salmon look bad, now that’s sad.
kendogfunky - January 13, 2012
Makes us Kings fans mad, maybe when Petrie made that trade he was wearing a maxi pad
jumpboi - January 13, 2012
Donte Greene and Jason Thompson
Are our best three and four right now. So basically the team we have now is no better than the team that we had last year except we had to take on 8 million dollars in salary and move down three spots in the draft to take a player that we could have taken at 7. Then we had to trade a draft pick for a player that was no better than the player we traded with the draft pick. Hmmmm.

HarveySpecter - January 13, 2012
god no! Don't want Rubio
F3RRi3R - January 14, 2012
What would u guys think
If we got Gilbert Arenas? Personally I wouldn’t mind if we got him
FTFeli - January 13, 2012 via mobile
We already have Salmons, why would we get him?
I think he only shot 36% last season
jumpboi - January 13, 2012
I would be pissed and filled with hatred
No idea what he brings to a team of young guys but trouble.
lead_pipe - January 13, 2012
No way, he's a thug.
Slam_Dunk - January 14, 2012
I think we should pick up Ish Smith
Might as well take a look at him if we’re giving Salmons 30 min
jumpboi - January 13, 2012
How bout swap Andre Miller for John Salmons?
KINGKENJI - January 13, 2012
If Denver was retarded enough to do that then I would say hell yes
LLcoolRay - January 14, 2012
Yes and we'll throw in a truckload of bagels and cream cheese
blknblu - January 14, 2012
We need to make a trade for Mo Williams on the Clippers
F3RRi3R - January 14, 2012
Still more of a scorer than a passer
But a better passer than most of our guys
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
Have you guys watch Denver vs. Miami
I envy those guys, thats what i want the Kings to imitate/play, up tempo basketball with precise passing , if they need a 3 pt. shot, they know who to give it to, they know who has a confident to shoot. Ty Lawson is a lil beast!!!
KINGKENJI - January 13, 2012
Denver that is not Miami that i want the Kings to play that way
KINGKENJI - January 13, 2012
Me too.
blknblu - January 14, 2012
What the hell happened to Cousins?
He looked lethargic, disinterested and like he was on drugs.
I see Kyle Lowry has added an outside game to go with his moves to the hoops.
That was another well-coached team we ran into tonight that knows how to pass, shoots the shots when they have them and plays pretty decent D.
I wish we had Dalembert instead of Hayes.
Donte played some good minutes tonight. He’s earning more PT. John Salmons, not so much.
I don’t know much about that kid Parsons, but he looked pretty decent. SF prospect?
NewEraKings - January 13, 2012
Well,...
1. I think he is sick so he probably was taking drugs… but the drugs to get you feeling better.(I guess they all do though, right?)
2. Indeed he has, I would love to see him in a Kings uniform, id trade Thornton + Jimmer for him in a heartbeat.
3. I wish this is something we could say about the Kings…sigh
4. Agreed. However, id love to have both? Ship off Hickson or JT, keep one, but id love both Hayes + Dally…
5. I think John just needs a bit more time, but I still agree. However, John is playing quite a chunk of minutes, id say give him 22-26 minutes a game instead of the 33-35 and give Donte a nice 15+ and Cisco 12+ a game at least coach, PLEASE.
6.The guy who I kept thinking was Dragic out there because I didn’t get to watch this game in HD and watched it on a 18 or so inch screen? Yea, he was solid.
Tyro18 - January 13, 2012
Meh
Dally has played like shit so far this season. That was his ONE good game because he wanted to show up the Kings…I’ll eat my hat if he doesn’t return to his six point par for the course after that.
HarveySpecter - January 13, 2012
Yea
I wasn’t talking the offence so much as the defense. Id rather have Dally be guarding my man than demarcus, JT, or Hickson right now…and probably,…probably even Hayes…
So with that, id love to have Dally back. Once he gets back into shape in these next few games(already looks good tho) and if Houston can get him consistent minutes I can see him doing exactly what he did last year for us, but probably even better. His FG% at the end of the season will probably be better than the % he had with us. Houston actually has sort of an offense, and schemes, everything.
But yes, I don’t expect Dally to be putting up 15+ everynight.
Tyro18 - January 13, 2012
Of course that's what it was
Dally has always been a “King killer”.
That’s why we picked him up, we always go after the King killers and they end up being duds for us
LLcoolRay - January 14, 2012
Cousins looked like someone killed his puppy
I’m surprised he wasn’t sucking his thumb. Strange.
NewEraKings - January 14, 2012
New Starting 5 (Considering Injuries), IMHO
Thomas, I
Evans
Garcia
Hickson
Cousins
Bench Rotation (starring in order of appearance):
Salmons (Remainig starting guard on floor slides to point or Garcia PointF)
Thomas, J
Fredette
Greene
convoy - January 13, 2012
If I was to change, I personally think...
Isaiah Thomas
Tyreke Evans
Donte Greene
Jason Thompson
Demarcus Cousins
I am really getting annoyed that JJ keeps starting..
JT’s confidence and play goes through the roof it seems when he starts. We can still give JJ a huge chunk of minutes, Hayes is STILL out, so its fine, but Id love to see JT to be starting.
He played amazing whenever he was starting last year. Please Coach, give JT the start next to cousins and if all is well for the 2-3 weeks when hayes gets back, keep JT in lineup and have Hayes take over main big man minutes off bench. If not, you can always throw Hayes back into lineup and JT back on bench, but dang… JT is a man, I like the guy. I love it when he starts… He still has some good potential in my eyes.
P.S. Anyone else notice hes not missing those close shots this year AT ALL?
He must have rubbed it off onto cousins, yes, but JT… hes turning into a solid big who DESERVES 27-31 min a game on THIS TEAM.
Tyro18 - January 13, 2012
But JT doesn’t hustle as well has hickson or get as many offensive rebounds..but then again JT has been making a lot of shots which makes me happy. and hickson makes too many boneheaded mistakes by never catching the ball >:(
CousinsEvansDUO - January 14, 2012
Who is Thomas, J.?
rubenho - January 14, 2012
If only Jimmer had "perfected" his rumored Dirk fadeaway.
We can always hope for tomorrow.
But in all seriousness. A disappointing game BUT without DMC (for the most part) and Thornton and Hayes we shouldnt be shocked. Some good things to take away though such as Tyreke again performing well, Donte seemingly stepping up at the 3, more decent bench minutes from Isiaah and Cisco as well. Oh and watching seemingly anyone and everyone block Scola.
WebberDynasty - January 14, 2012
Balanced perspective.
Clearly DMC wasn’t in the game. His time would probably have been better spent resting in bed at the hotel; Thornton was out; Hayes was out. Shouldn’t surprise anyone that Dally had the game he had. There were the bright spots you mention with Tyreke and Donte.
I’m concerned about Jimmer, too, but we all know what he is capable of doing. Perhaps he is not a good fit on this team. Hope that is not the case. Perhaps he will be another Quincy Douby. Hope that is not the case. My biggest fear: we trade him to another team and he shoots lights out for them.
Slam_Dunk - January 14, 2012
I wasn't enthused about Jimmer's NBA potential
But hey at least he sometimes makes a timely pass to an open teammate. That instantly makes him one of my favorite Kings.
blknblu - January 14, 2012
Jimmer has no confidence in his own shot right now.
But his defensive positioning has looked a lot better. It looks like he has clearly focused a good portion of his time thus far on that part of his game.
Wonderchild - January 14, 2012
He has to adjust being the 4th option
and get his shot off when he is open, not dribble into the lane
F3RRi3R - January 14, 2012
Jimmer
He is a shooter. Thats his first, second and third skill he brings to the game. Obviously when his shot isn’t falling he will look like a wasted pick BUT if he can find his stroke and get some confidence against NBA competition perhaps he can get it going and contribute. Until his shot is falling and he has confidence in his own abilities I think the struggles (lackluster defense, leaving his feet to pass, driving then getting lost in the paint, etc) will continue.
Just have to hope he remembers what mad him. Obviously he has range so even if its a case of pulling up 3 feet prior to the line it shouldnt matter for him and should help stretch the defense, just has to start looking for shots and hitting shots, shooters have to shoot to ever get it back.
WebberDynasty - January 14, 2012
Wow...
I actually think our Kings team can beat Houston. They weren’t better in the first half, and both Lowry and Dalembert were freakishly hot, especially in the second. Scola was out of control, cause no one could really contain him.
I would say this game it hurt not having Chuck Hayes on the foloor, and DMC having on off night.
I mean when DMC wasn’t on the floor, look at where the Houston was scoring, compared to where Kings were taking thier shots from. Kings had no low post.
So yeah Salmons shot some stinkers, and perhaps Donte & Cisco should have a little more playing time, but we can’t keep shooting jumpers and threes all game when this happens.
It annoys me more when I see Salmons holding the ball, looking to dish, but no one moving, or when JJ still takes them deep 2s when he never hits them.
Jimmer dishes ok, but yeah coach needs to give him the green light to shoot. He seems to concerned about doing the right thing for the team, sacrificing his own game (which can be a good thing…team player), but it’s actually hurting the team, ‘cause we need a shooter, and he’s not.
I’m comfortable with IT starting, although love his energy off the bench.
Slikk_J - January 14, 2012
Apologize for me bad grammer.
Slikk_J - January 14, 2012
I would like to see Jimmer take more corner 3's.
getPGwithbounce - January 14, 2012
i just dont understand what was our off season goal to improve the team
I was pissed when they traded Beno. He was our most consistent player last year, and was our best shooter as well one of the few guards who can actually play with Tyreke. Then it gets worse because we take Salmons for him . Ahh why ? Just a hole on offense to go with Tyreke who has the same thing going on which really holds us back. I was desperately hoping for Shane Battier even if we had to over pay. So we lose our best shooter and and most consistent offensive team player and a willing passer for John Fucking Salmons aka dribble dribble dribble brick !
I thought no doubt we are absolutely gonna grab a point in free agency as soon as the lockout lifts. When the Knicks amnestied Billups I was so pumped thinking we are gonna make a run to the playoffs if we grab him this is gonna be sweet……. Nope we don’t even bid and he goes for wait for it wait for it 2.5 million . Oh my god are you fucking serious! Just because he may not wanna be here we don’t get him. He is a pro’s pro he would of been good guy for us. If we only went after guys who were dying to play here it would be a short bench full of Sac State players. This is the one that irks me the most we could have Billups possibly right now. I know they wanna developed Jimmer but at what expense. It’s clear IT should be playing more than him. This to me was a no brainer.
Then our big free agent signee is Chuck Hayes……..WTF ! We could of extended Dalembert last year but no he had his eye on Hayes. I thought After Daily got into shape and Westphall finally started him with DMC the Kings had a great interior presence, and the 2 of them owned the glass Daily could guard the tougher man it was perfect. Especially when they drafted Jimmer I thought they really need to resign Daily cause Jimmer man is gonna be blowing by him all year and that is gonna put a ton of foul on DMC,also our other big Tyrekes man gets by him off screens since he never fights thru them and now even tho DMC is blocking 1.5 a game those aren’t above the rim intimidating blocks they usually are flat footer arms straight up blocks. We could of had Daily back we just fucker around too much and hurt his feelings I don’t blame him for signing with Hou. For less. Hayes is a nice bench player but a starter I don’t know about all that I think that’s a down grade from Dalembert. Once a game atleast someone just jumps over him from behind and scores a easy put back.
The Caseload trade looks like a wash except for the pick I really thought JJ would be better but he takes some shitty shots we need IT out there throwing him some oops. I was really excited resigning MT3 I just which the team that ended the season playing some good ball would of had a chance to have a fool season together I know its early but this team seems worse. How Salmons plays 30 min a night I have no clue. He needs to come off the bench or dnp,and he is over matched at the 3 defensively so his d is being wasted at the 3 so he is really worthless . Oh one last ewe don’t have 2.5 for Billups but we got 3 for Travis Outlaw ? Gimme a break. Sorry it was so long I realize now it should of been my first fan post.
WE NEED A DEFENSIVE MINDED CENTER - January 14, 2012
Billups would have been awesome.
But hey we already have one point guard, so we’re good.
blknblu - January 14, 2012
Of course, Billups had as much stated that he would retire before coming to a non-contender
But I suppose since that doesn’t matter, we might as well wish for Marc Gasol.
section214 - January 14, 2012
Yeah maybe his agent called Petrie and said "don't even think about it"
I know. Guess I should rephrase that to say “starting the season with a proven point guard would have been awesome.”
blknblu - January 14, 2012
Probably true
But think about this – if this team has (say) Andre Miller, they are not appreciably closer to being a playoff team than they are right now, and Isaiah Thomas is either wearing a suit or a Bighorns uniform.
section214 - January 14, 2012
Yeah I love IT
And I’ve been saying he’s not a starter but I sure like the flow of the offense when he’s on the floor.
blknblu - January 14, 2012
The thing about Thomas
is not so much about him being a “point guard” as much as him being a second guard (along with Tyreke) on the floor that can distribute. I contend that the Kings don’t need a pass-first point guard – what they need is a backcourt mate to Tyrekd that can shoot and distribute. Thornton showed signs of that when he came here last year, but not so much this year. Fredette has just been ineffective to this point, leaving Thomas as the only backcourt partner that has been able to shoot and pass (and play some defense) so far this year. I don’t think that he’s a starter either, but hopefully his play lights a little fire under MT’s overall game.
section214 - January 14, 2012
Yeah I loved watching MT last year
Maybe he can get last year’s mojo back soon and then Reke won’t be driving me so crazy, maybe trying to do a little too much.
blknblu - January 14, 2012
And to be fair,
Evans and Thornton have not really had much a chance to play together under Smart. Evans has been astonishingly better since Smart took over. Perhaps will see a similar effect with MT.
section214 - January 14, 2012
meant Casspi trade. looks like a wash . Yes i know my spelling and punctuation blows .
Also auto correct on my phone really has it out for me
WE NEED A DEFENSIVE MINDED CENTER - January 14, 2012
Good Recap
Isaiah is showing some real poise out there. He’s probably got the most alley-oop assists this season, and it really improves the watchability of this team
I love the Kings running. RUN MORE PLEASE.
God Salmons makes me want to throw my remote at the TV.
Damn you Dalembert.
Would have liked to see DMC in there when Sammy was out. Sammy is a too good a defender for DeMarcus right now.
Kyle Lowry is a stud.
I’ll take the loss. These guys look a lot better than under Westphal. Lets keep improving, and keep running. I’d like to see what we can do if we were more conditioned than everyone else.
chenp22 - January 14, 2012
At least:
1. The Freethrow shooting has improved.
2. Isaiah Thomas has emerged as a capable PG
3. We still have Whiteshide
Natomaser - January 14, 2012
Oddly, the FT shooting is .011 better than the opposition
ElRonToro - January 14, 2012
Can Smart get someones to rummage through the Kings' old playbooks?
‘Cause I’m pretty sure Jimmer would benefit from learning how Peja used to play off the ball and space himself for some open shots.
KingsFromNY - January 14, 2012
Completely agree. Jimmer needs to learns pejas spacing and time and how and when he shoots. He needs to study a ton of old videos of peja and play like him.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CousinsEvansDUO - January 14, 2012
Tonight's game was really a tale of two halves.
Offense looked really fluid in the first half. 12 assists, 5 TOs.
2nd half, Kings pretty much reverted back to old habits. 5 assists, 6 TOs.
Scola and Dalembert killed us in the paint with the offensive rebounds, and our small ball couldnt box out both of them at all. Donte played well, but I would have liked to see more JJ and JT on the court at the same time with DMC still sick and all.
But I see how Kings played in the first half, and I see clear improvement when it comes to an offensive system. Play like that for 48 minutes and we can beat any team out there.
Wonderchild - January 14, 2012
Just think what the final score is going to be in tomorrow night's game against the Mavs...
DiegoKing - January 14, 2012
Ye of little faith
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
My faith is kinda wobbly recently, especially since we're so bad on the road,
oh yeah and also because they will play a team with superior talent.
DiegoKing - January 14, 2012
Ehh I'm just not a fan of counting a game a loss or a win before the game is played
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
You must know that I really do want the Kings to win tonight, right?
Plus, if they win you can clown on me for being a pessimistic doubter.
DiegoKing - January 14, 2012
I know that, we're all Kings fans here
I don’t think anyone wants to see the Kings lose, except for that brief period that some thought we should tank to get PW fired. But I’m hoping for a win too, I’d rather not make a prediction though. (:
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
Fair uh nuff.
DiegoKing - January 14, 2012
Am I the only one loving the fact we have more Delonte West in our lives this year?
wallywagon11 - January 14, 2012
This guy...
DiegoKing - January 14, 2012
Yes!
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
love me some Weste
You are all HATERS!!! He’s a BALLAR YO!
wallywagon11 - January 14, 2012
Actually the offense was the same, the only difference was steals and fast break pts in the 1st
We had 22 fast break points on 8 steals. Otherwise the offense looked the same in both halves. Bring the ball up, pass to the opposite side of the court, players catches the ball, players dribbles the ball, players drive and puts up an ill advised shot.
Our two PG’s combined for 10 assists and 7 turnovers. Lowry had 9 assists and 2 turnovers.
But, we lost the game on 20% 3pt shooting and giving up 18 offensive rebounds which lead to 10 more FGA’s by the Rockets.
The lack of Assists by the Kings has nothing to do with our PG play. The main problem is that to get an Assist someone has to Pass The Ball. We simply catch the ball, dribble then shot. So, no one gets an assist off our made baskets, unless it’s a lob or fast break.
HighTops - January 14, 2012
Hope the 49ers somehow smash the Saints tonight.
That would be sweet !
DiegoKing - January 14, 2012
I'm a Raider fan
So naturally, I hope they lose, hahaha.
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
I'm an Eagles fan but I always root for the underdogs.
I would be cheering on the Raiders so hard if they had of made the big dance.
DiegoKing - January 14, 2012
Ah, I see
I only root for the underdogs in the Super Bowl and I always root against the favorites. It think these team’s are kinda even, but my Raiders bias keeps me from rooting for SF. I wish they did make it to the playoffs though
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
true story
haven’t watched a Super Bowl since Raiders/Bucs. Dead serious.
wallywagon11 - January 14, 2012
You missed a good one between the Giants and Patriots in 2007.
DiegoKing - January 14, 2012
Haha, that was actually the first Super Bowl I ever watched
I remember being so mad and crying when the Raiders lost (I was 8). I’ve watched every Super Bowl since, but haven’t paid attention to most of them since the 07 Super Bowl between the Giants and Patriots (I won $200 on the Giants win :)).
raiderking21 - January 14, 2012
crap not entirely true
I forgot I watched the last 6 minutes of the Cardinals/Steelers and walked in on a few of the bad calls on the Seahawks/Steelers games (both super bowl parties but wasn’t in the room watching the game and it’s all a drunken blur)
wallywagon11 - January 14, 2012
honestly, as a Raiders fan I've never really cared about the 49ers other than Raiders games (feel same way about the Giants especially since NL and AL in baseball are so divided)
but not going to lie, all of the 49er references I keep seeing being tied to the Kings this year has actually annoyed me to the point that I hope they lose 100-0 every single game now. Drives me nuts.
