According to Jason Jones, the Sacramento Kings have announced that Marcus Thornton will miss 1-2 weeks with a hematoma in that battered quad that has cost him a few games. The injury had previously been diagnosed as a contusion, but apparently it's a bit worse and needs some time away from the inconsiderate knees and arms of the NBA.
That could mean more John Salmons at two-guard or additional time for Jimmer Fredette and Isaiah Thomas or all of the above. It was likely this injury diagnosis that in part led the Kings to recall Tyler Honeycutt from the NBA D-League. If any of the rotation wings go down, the Kings get pretty light.
I do not encourage you to Google Image "hematoma."

A misdiagnosis?!?!?! From the KINGS' doctors?!?!?
Tell me it isn’t so!
prowseinthehouse - January 25, 2012
Well the Maloofs can only afford the cheapest option
For some reason I feel that if the Maloofs would spend money for a high quality staff, then this wouldn’t happen twice in a little over a month.
SharkKings49 - January 25, 2012
my brain must not be working
what else did they misdiagnose?
And is this even much of a misdiagnosis? I thought a contusion is just a milder form of hematoma.
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
It don't think it was a misdiagnosis of the injury itself.
The degree of the injury was worse than they initially believed.

Kmarts ankles
Something to do with Cisco, something else as well, I can’t remember.
There is a long line of mis-diagnosis.
iashwash - January 25, 2012
If only
they bought higher end exercise balls!
TheFifthMookie - January 26, 2012
No that wasn't it with Cisco
there was an issue where they were way off on his return date or something.
iashwash - January 26, 2012
The team doctor
Is one of those shady doctors that hand out weed prescriptions to anyone for 40 bucks.

This could also explain our lapses coming out of the locker room after halftime.
hmm..

Inconsiderate knees are inconsiderate.

The Kings are pretty light if any of the rotation wings don't go down.

Yeah, the Honeycutt call-up makes some sense now.
Aykis16 - January 25, 2012
Also I expect Jimmer to get the start
Especially considering he’s seemed to find some sort of rhythm the last couple games.

Translation:
Greetings fellow sports fans. This is my first time posting here at Sactown Royalty. I have deep affection for your Kings. They are my second favorite team behind the Rockets of Houston (The Dream Shake is their SBN blog).
James Fredette has a calm demeanor and my hope is that he plays well enough to earn a spot in the starting line up. This would be very beneficial to the Kings of Sacramento.
Thornton, on the other hand, has already shown himself to be a very capable scorer. He has the skills to excel in the N.B.A. Your Kings of Sacramento are very deep at the guard positions.
Sincerely,
Tyga
StevenG - January 25, 2012
thanks bro much appreciated
mitmil22 - January 25, 2012
you realize
you’ll have to do this for EVERY post he does now, right?
Dub_TC - January 25, 2012
mitmil22 is a good guy
Im from the Rockets blog where he posts all the time. He just speaks the truth in his own lanuage. Its better to roll with it than knock him on it. He’s just a huge NBA fan.
StevenG – you also need to translate on The Dream Shake…..your post had me cracking up!!! Instant classic!!!!!

You only need one dot, called a "period" to end a sentence; not five to ten of them.
Use a period [ . ] at the end of a sentence that makes a statement. There is no space between the last letter and the period. Use one space between the period and the first letter of the next sentence.
Good luck with that.
Slam_Dunk - January 27, 2012
I googled it …. Honey Badger don’t care. Looks painful.
Dub_TC - January 25, 2012
Thornton kind of looks like a Honey Badger in the above pick doesn't he?
(and yes, we capitalize Honey Badger around here)
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
Marcus Thornton = Honey Badger
I like it.
Dub_TC - January 25, 2012
I sufford a hemotoma on my right thigh
during my college athletic days. It happened very similarly to MT injury. I was out for 2 weeks. Our college athletic medical team treated me daily with ultrasound treatment and electric stem muscle stimulation. In order to speed up the recovery they had to “massage” the hemotoma/contusion out. Simply put, they took a PVC pipe looking roller and rolled it out from the muscle tissue. One of the most painful injuries I endured. I feel for you mr Thornton!
rise_to_mediocrity - January 25, 2012
I had to get a similar treatment just before my wedding night

Don't like to see Thornton out, but wonder if he's good for Kings?
Thornton as a 6th man scoring machine would be great, but in the starting lineup he just sucks ups possessions. Dude is the chucker of chuckers. He never gives the ball up, and unless he’s hitting his shots, he’s a detriment. Not sure I like the signing now, especially for the amount of $. Wish he could be part of a trade for a pass first guard.
amonk81 - January 25, 2012
I feel you, but he could improve.
We saw a very similar change in mindset/chuck-i-tude from Monta Ellis last year. He became a much more willing passer, took better shots, drove and cut to create for others and not only himself, etc.
Maybe Thornton could do the same? And, for the record, I have no idea if Keith Smart played a role in bringin about this change.
Shizzo - January 25, 2012
Agreed
I like him as a sixth man, he could come in and shoot alot when we need energy and scoring. I like him better than Salmons that also shoots every time he touches the ball but makes a horrible percentage. The lack of ball movement and inability of this team to recognize what is and is not a high percentage shot is a glaring problem on offense. Also, having played alot of b-ball there is nothing more demoralizing than being open and having someone come down court again and again and throw up a ill advised shot. Smart has helped with the offense, but we need to get better, and the first team offense is worse because there are just too many black holes.
coltsfan37 - January 25, 2012
Funny, I was going to compare Thornton to Ellis.
And I don’t think Ellis’ changes stuck? I hope you are right, and Thornton can change. Or, I hope the Kings get enough pass first guys that Thornton can go to the bench.
amonk81 - January 25, 2012
Hematoma... ppsshhhhh
I had one from a vasectomy… now THAT was a hematoma, like two purple grapefruits!
kromeace - January 25, 2012
If I had two purple grapefruits down there, I'd want to be in a hema-coma
otis29 - January 25, 2012
Jimmer definition of Hemotomoa (n): Playing time.
My definition of his girlfriend = Whitney (n): Dime Piece.
bench_blob - January 25, 2012
Is it just me or does she look like a 13-year-old? Please tell me that´s his sister.
rubenho - January 25, 2012
Just you.
Slam_Dunk - January 25, 2012
dime piece is a little too strong of a term
she’s more like a 3 quarter piece
Shizzo - January 25, 2012

fuck it
Shizzo - January 25, 2012
Why would they photoshop that picture so heavily?
They make a cut couple though, congrats to the young lovebirds.

iashwash - January 25, 2012
I think it's just fake tan + makeup + high hair line
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
Then Jimmer has the smoothest face-skin of any early 20 year-old male I've ever seen.
I don’t feel comfortable publishing this statement, but I’m going to go ahead and do it anyway.
iashwash - January 25, 2012
okay you might be right
but in my defense, I didn’t really look at Jimmer in that picture. Eyes kind of drifted left.
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
And you call yourself a Kings fan...
tsk, tsk
iashwash - January 25, 2012
Completely not Kings related
but did anyone else notice how the Rockets aren’t picking up the 4th year on Lee, Williams, or Hill (Thabeet too but … well, yeah)?
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
Not picking it up on Lee?
That’s surprising. Not too surprising on the others (although you forgot to add Flynn there).
Aykis16 - January 25, 2012
didn't see Flynn yet
was going to but didn’t see it (would have to assume that’s happening though)
Really curious what they do leading up to the trade deadline
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
Lee's a pretty solid player.
I could see him being a nice compliment off the bench for a contender since he can defend the perimeter quite well and knock down open shots. I remember thinking he was supposed to turn into a much better player after his rookie year than he has.
Frankles - January 25, 2012
Had Orlando not traded him to the Nets, he would have...
Wonderchild - January 25, 2012
THABEET!!!
I will miss heckling his hands of stone when he is out of the NBA
Nedly66 - January 25, 2012
I still believe in Thabeet
He’s showed some promise when he got time. Only 24.
nbrans - January 25, 2012
I love you nbrans
It’s okay buddy, you were wrong. I was wrong too. But eventually you gotta admit that in this league, people play height. And if height can’t play… but yeah, here’s to hoping he makes it. I would be totally for the Kings picking him up on the cheap. He would be a good mate for Cousins (but goddamn don’t put him on the floor with JT, turnover-city).
iashwash - January 25, 2012
Still remember at a party a year before Thabeet was drafted (late summer of 08)
arguing with someone that BJ Mullins would likely be the top prospect over Thabeet (had not seen Mullins play yet in college). I dunno who looks more dumb on that one. Me for being way off about Mullins draft stock or the other person given in their arguement they were talking about Thabeet being the next Mutumbo.
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
cool story bro.
iashwash - January 25, 2012
Courtney Lee could totally be our cheap Maloof version of Aaron Afflalo
Shizzo - January 25, 2012
I think can still be restricted though
maybe wrong though
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
No I don't think so
Not if the option isn’t picked up, as there’s no cap hold as a result.
iashwash - January 25, 2012
I'm not 100% sure
I assumed at first what you are assuming but in the media reports the information conflicts a little.
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
Okay then
so we’re both clueless. That’s cool wally. If I had to be clueless with somebody, I’m happy it’s with you.
iashwash - January 25, 2012
Where are you getting your cap hold info? If it's at ShamSports, even their trades and rosters aren't up to date
HighTops - January 25, 2012
I just remember from other players
Like when the Bucks declined the option on Joe Alexander, I remember one of the reasons was so they wouldn’t have the cap hold and could make a splash with their signings.
iashwash - January 25, 2012
Not true
Lee’s contract is up and we didn’t make an extension deal. They’ll likely retain him this off-season.
Patrick Harrel - January 25, 2012
instead of hematoma
i say we refer to it as marcus’ “sheedy”
Loyalty2Royalty - January 25, 2012
good opportunity to start Thomas at PG
and move Evans to SG…..Salmons will have to finally step up.
Dzzz - January 25, 2012
Thomas should have to step up too...
His shooting has been gastly lately (although admittedly doing better with APG). Start Jimmer and pray he plays like the Jimmer of the Second Quarter against the Grizzlies… for the whole game.
