Year 2: injury plagued
This is year 3: he has shown flashes of great play. Next year In a good and not jam packed season is when I think he will be amazing again.
Honestly DMC is the only person on our team that has all star potential that looks like it could be realized. Tyreke could be maybe one day third team all NBA that’s not that bad though.
I just feel like they're built for the regular season of a compressed schedule
Young, running, slashing team. But they don’t have any shot creators, they’re not great rebounders/defenders, and when the defense tightens up in the postseason I think they’re going to struggle offensively.
We have enough other players on this team that we know are not going to be stars.
I would much rather they get traded before Reke. Tyreke at least has the potential he can be a star. Let’s get rid of the other guys and keep Reke around for awhile.
Selling Evans would be one of the worst moves we could make. Not sure what you think we are getting back. He is one of our bright spots and still very young.
I like him and all but I don’t see the fit with him and Cousins. Unless you want him driving and dishing out to Cousins for jumpshots (don’t want Cuz shooting) I think they should entertain trade ideas. He has so much raw talent though.
Why is Tyreke always the f*cking scapegoat? It’s getting real tired. This team has some serious organizational problems. Even if you feel Tyreke is a problem he is the least of the problems with this team. You don’t trade your best player because you are incapable of building a winning team around him. It’s ludicrous.
I agree with this. Frustration is very understandable right now
There are definite changes that need to be made. But Evans takes unfair critisim and if people actually got their wish and he was traded for 50 cents on the dollar – it would be very, very bad in another year or so.
Agree. Reke doesn't play well with others. Will he ever?
Reke is an athletic stud, but up till now, only individually dominant. He plays alone too much. I doubt this will change now, unless, perhaps a PG would help Reke (not having ball in his hands). I love Tyreke, but if Kings can get something (like a PG) to make this a better team, they should.
Its this stupid fkn crowd. OPEN YOUR DAMN MOUTHS, GET ON YOUR FEET AND SCREAM!!!!!!!!! If I was there I would be screaming defense at the top of my lungs, this crowd at arco is nonexistant.
When you get a screen you use it, Accelerate past the screen. When you cut to the hoop you explode to it and look for the pass. He is so used to 1 on 1 because of his dribbling skills, still hasn’t broken through those bad habbits.
We need a coach that can light a fire under their butts, like an Avery Johnson type. I guess the players have become numb to 30 point blowouts, like it’s the norm.
Iso iso iso – no ball movement – crappy shot or turnover…basically sums up the Kings.
2nd quarter these idiots thought they would have an easy game when ty lawson came out. Nearly 5 possesions in a row we witness 5 iso plays where someone would take a dumb, long jumper. it was salmons hickson and tyreke and thomas taking long contested jumpers every single possesion in the 2nd. Absolutely fkn RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But to consistently get blown out in games that stop being competitive by halftime? No excuse. That’s just a lack of pride and discipline. And it really pisses me off.
Every other GM will look at that deal and say “well Evans can be very good buuut you can’t have him and Salmons on the same team”… but Geoff thought it would be a good idea
He doesn’t seem to be that good imo. He can shoot, tall, a little athletic, supposedly a leader.. it doesn’t seem to me that he has star written all over him
12 minute 30point comeback??? Maybe. If we keep them to scoring under 10 and we score around 40~ we could win. Get tyreke driving and getting fouled to slow down the the time we can do it.
I’m no fairweather fan. Always glass half full. For many years now. I’ll never give up, but…It’s time to blow things up. We suck, we suck, we suck! Only ones to blame at this point are owners and Petrie. So, so depressed right now. I’ve done nothing but support this team for years. This is the FIRST TIME I’VE EVER TURNED A GAME OFF. I’m embarrassed to say this, and I would have been pissed at anybody who did say it before, but I beginning to not care if we have a team in Sac. It’s just too pathetic. Feel like I’m watching a college team playing in the pros. Thanks for allowing me the forum to vent. I’d give anything to not feel this way………………………………………………………………………..
“its a process.. I think our guys did a good job in the 1st and 2nd quarter they just ran away from us” just like he says every single mother fucking post game interview.
"Our guys played hard tonight, Cousins and JImmer had a terrific game. We just gotta execute and play together as a team instead of kicking ourselves in the butt"
Getting blown out every game is going to build characters for this Kings squad… Smart won’t last very long though, Petrie will need another man to throw under the bus for a diversion to the real issue.
uhhhhh maybe we can get some easy wins at utah and golden state?!! and then the next 2 home games well win as well so despite losing 3 in a row we might win the next 4!
i used it in the 2nd quarter, 3rd and 4th uhh hope i didint overdose from all this dope im taking shit its hard watching this though whatchu want me to do!?!??!?!
You have gotta have at least 3 players who can score 20+ every night if not you wont win in the west. In the east u can score 80-90 pts and win not in the west you need to consistently score 100+
That was a huge mistake not taking him. Nothing against Freddette but Knight has clearly shown he’s more ready to play. Hell, Knight would be the best pg on this team today. Yes, better than Evans. Evans is not nor will ever be a PG.
Evans is like the kids in youth basketball that you put a point guard because he’s your most athletic or best player. Doesn’t mean he’s actually a point guard.
To say the same thin about knight but the jury is still out. The think with knight is that he’s really filling the stats sheet but the pistons aren’t winning either.
The easiest position in the league to fill with a generic contributor and we end up with larry, moe and surly.
We have no shot blocker (sorry midget chuck). We have no veteran ball handler. We have hired umpteen bad coaches in a row. Every trade we make we get taken like the new guy in the prison shower.
I’m starting to think maybe petrie sorta kinda isn’t doing a good job…
It’s his 4th year in the league! Don’t you know players never get any better after their 2nd year in the league? Don’t you know after 2 seasons if they aren’t putting up Lebron numbers you need to trade them for Nic Batum, Andre miller, Jose Calderon, or a late 1st rounder(if you could even get that much)?
IT has useful qualities, but shooting has never been his strong suit.
He never shot even 40% from 3 in college. I’m sure he’ll develop a more reliable shot, but his strength will alway be utilizing his quickness to pester the other team to death.
I don't know why Smart doesn't play Honeycutt/Greene more. They hustle, play D and don't chuck up shots to meet their daily quota. It's not like we're competing for a championship at this point
Guys Im unbelievably sad right now but I just want you to know that I LOVE YOU ALL And I love the kings. At least some of our guys are playing well, honeycutt jimmer thomas cousins look great and maybe we’ll win some of our next games :-)
The only real pieces the Kings have are Cousins and Evans
And I don’t think Evans will ever be consistent or comfortable as the primary facilitator of an offense. He’s got a scorer’s mentality. People forget that he came into college as a 2 and it was his college coach that put him in the PG role. He’s not Rose or Wall who were far more polished as PG’s than Evans. Evans is a scorer and should embrace that role.
He played PG in HS, second half of year in college and has been distributing well in Smart’s offense.
His shooting has been bad. Perdentages have been down with him taking more jumpers which eh can’t hit. But he had another 7 assists tonight and moved the ball well.
Of all the problems our team had, Evans passing/not passing wasn’t one. Jimmer and Evans moved it well and to the right spots.
Doesn’t mean they are a pg. Evans made his rep on the summer circuit as a scorer. Knight played “pg” in high school and he was his team’s primary option on offense. On the summer circuit he played with Kenny Boynton coming up. He was a lot more of a facilitator on the AAU circuit then.
But a. High School b-ball is inconsequential for talent projections in this day and age. and b. You want a laugh go look at Reke’s recruiting profile on Scout at some of the comments.
Strengths:
3 point shooting
Ability to create
Big time scorer from wing
Weaknesses
Decision making
Rebounding
Shooting off the dribble.
He needs to keep learning, but he’s done a much better job distributing. He needs to keep learning nuances of the game, but the biggest issue to me is his shooting.
He won’t reach his potential until he can hit the midranger. Same was true of Westbrook and Rose.
if chuch hayes was playing they would of only had 50points in the paint. Seriously though im telling you guys when hayes get in we will be a different team.
I didn’t expect a lot, but I sure didn’t expect regular 30+ point losses. It’s time to show Petrie the door.
God I hope the Maloofs sell. This organization is in shambles.
Well, you may have your shot at your dream soon ;)
He’s drafted well and brought in some young talent, but his offseason signings have been underwhelming to put it nicely. He needs to fix those ASAP if he still can.
play garcia and salmons less than 10 minutes. play honeycutt 20-25minutes. he hustles like hell, moves great off the ball which is what we LACK. he rebounds steals and blocks…seriously he is our best option at the 3…and jimmer would be scoring like crazy but the problem is he isn’t getting enough plays for him. cousins also needs plays ran for him because he always has to force tough shots.
What the f! Why is no one on the kings as angry me or anyone else at the bar? Double digit deficits need to end man, show some effort for all 6 of your fans left….
Is terrible. He should not be a starter in this league. Best lineup for the Kings would be Jimmer, Evans, Thornton, Cousins, Thompson/Hayes when he gets back.
Seriously, we were running IT (who didn’t get going until garbage time) JJ, Garcia, Outlaw, and Greene. Thats FOUR guys who couldn’t throw a ball into the ocean let alone a hoop. Plus Salmons in the starting lineup is just embarrassing. Just thoroughly destroyed by Gallo.
I thought the starters were doing pretty well. The bench came in and all of a sudden the team was down by 17. Sad.
Our starters are fine. We need to get healthy. With Jimmer's Emergence
We’ve got Jimmer/Thornton/Reke/Hayes/Cousins who are all starter material. Then you’ve got IT, Greene, Thompson, Hickson who have shown potential. The other guys just need to go.
I thought he was a great signing for the team. Great to have in a 3 big rotation and to check the other teams best big in a man-to-man situation. However, I think holding down the other teams bigs is least of the Kings defensive worries right now.
But I really liked what I saw from him early this season. He was quarterbacking the defense and stepping up when guards tried to drive into the paint. I don’t think he’s an all star. But I definitely think he would have helped in a game like tonight.
A vet PG would be nice. Wanted us to get one this offeseason for the bench.
But Jimmer and Evans should be a nice combination going forward.
SF is our real hole in the starting lineup. Team is starting to play better offense and move the ball. But we really seem to be playing 5 on 4 our there on offense. And none of the SFs are making up for that with their defense either.
There is no doubt that this is a passionate fan base and we care a lot aboutt our team. Not trying to be mean but we are lucky to even still have this steam yes im angry frustrated just like all of you
Had the highest ceiling of any guard in the draft. Of course there’s going to be a period of adjustment (especially on a crap squad like the Pistons) but I think Knight’s ceiling is FAR higher than Jimmer’s especially as a PG.
although really like Knight too (definitely struggling to run any kind of offense in Detroit but he sure seems like a hard worker trying to make the right decisions)
Cuz is a star 4/5 moving forward, Hickson is way too undersized and seems to have awful shot selection and an a poor defender… but other than that hes great
But I also thought with the tough schedule that our young legs would outlast some teams. But we consistently look like the slower, older team for some reason.
Maybe these losses will inspire tyreke……this is his team and hes letting it fall apart..maybe he will realize he get insane determination to improve and start playing like michael jordan..i mean he is as good as michael on something (not his jumper lol) but yeah tyreke will improve the next couple games I think (and hope!)
Did anybody ever read the story about Tyreke in Play Their Hearts Out?
About how he came down to play on his AAU’s club younger team for a game in a tournament because Demtrius Walker was making fun of the kids on the younger team and talking garbage. He was 13 or 14 at the time and wanted to teach Walker a lesson in humility?
It’s an anecdote like that where you can see the guy’s got the potential for greatness in him but there’s a disconnect right now imho.
It's hard to say Tyreke's brain (BBIQ) is a weakness...
because he has never really been in a NBA system. For all we know, some of his mistakes were actually Paul Westphal’s idea.
I guess I’m blinded by my being a fan. Or by the fact that the kid is talented with room to grow.
I honestly think this is a big part of it - extend it to every guy on the team
As well as how it was constructed to his whims. Think about how many guys were shuffled in and out of here, shuffled in and out of lineups. They built nothing over the last two years and learned nothing. This franchise has been completely rudderless. Westphal absolutely needed to go. Petrie absolutely needs to be next. And I just wish the Maloofs would sell.

Under PW you can tell there wasn’t a offensive philosophy. Smart actually has these guys running plays but they’re just not working
Reke_Havoc13 - January 25, 2012
Ultimately, what's the difference?
andy sims - January 25, 2012
Lack of effort vs. lack of execution?

Reke_Havoc13 - January 25, 2012

deal Evans and Salmons contract for a pick
OKO - January 25, 2012
I agree with that.
mjjr42002 - January 25, 2012
Wait, you want to get YOUNGER?
The Kings will already have a high first rounder in the upcoming draft.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
i would like 2 1st rounders in the next years draft
and have Salmons and Garcia and Outlaws contracts off the books
OKO - January 25, 2012
Well, the way you say it, it sounds really appealing for the team giving up the first rounder
otis29 - January 25, 2012
you dont think any lottery team would give up a 1st for Evans?
Phoenix, New Orleans, Toronto, Charlotte??
OKO - January 25, 2012
Not if they are in the lottery - and if this draft is as deep as people say
AND you expect them to take on a bad contract?
Would you do it, if you were them?
otis29 - January 25, 2012
thats sad for us then
Tyreke was ROY and the 20-5-5 guy just 2 years ago, I would think somebody would give a high 1st for him.
I would be willing to take a bad contract back, as long as its not Salmons, say Kleiza, Childress, Rashard Lewis etc
OKO - January 25, 2012
If you're selling point is that Reke was ROY and 20-5-5
And he’s only 22, why are you trading him?
otis29 - January 25, 2012
my point is that as a Kings fan, I think we should move on
and I would hope 1 team out of 32 would overpay for him
OKO - January 25, 2012
Move on from a young player who's had success in the league
To try out an extra (well, two extra) young players who we don’t know about it. Sounds like potential to go from the frying pan to the fire.
If you’re going to trade Reke, I’d rather get a veteran than another draft pick.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
im all for that as well
Evans and Salmons contract for something, draft pick, pass first PG, wing defender, shot blocker, whatever
OKO - January 25, 2012
you know what sucks
Every other GM will look at that deal and say “well Evans can be very good buuut you can’t have him and Salmons on the same team”… but Geoff thought it would be a good idea
Chent - January 25, 2012 via mobile
I don't get why you need to include Salmons though
When you do, you’re decreasing the value of what you get back. And it’s not like we need to clear cap space, we’re barely over the minimum.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
I'm thinking veteran + draft pick, ideally

OK first comment of the night....

Brandon Knight
That was a huge mistake not taking him. Nothing against Freddette but Knight has clearly shown he’s more ready to play. Hell, Knight would be the best pg on this team today. Yes, better than Evans. Evans is not nor will ever be a PG.
Evans is like the kids in youth basketball that you put a point guard because he’s your most athletic or best player. Doesn’t mean he’s actually a point guard.
KingsCoach - January 25, 2012
How can you bag on Jimmer?
He was without a doubt our best player tonight.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
Look how much IT is playing,
It’s obvious that this team needs a PG, I believe that’s his point
mattrick - January 25, 2012
And Brandon Knight has been pretty mediocre this season himself
Although I’ll admit to being a bit pissed when he slipped down to where the Kings should have been drafting. BUT OH NO WE HAVE TO HAVE JOHN SALMONS.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
ive been tempted

Slam_Dunk - January 25, 2012
No rookie, short of Kyrie Irving or Rubio was gonna to make a difference on this team
dampania - January 25, 2012
We have no decent swingmen
The easiest position in the league to fill with a generic contributor and we end up with larry, moe and surly.
We have no shot blocker (sorry midget chuck). We have no veteran ball handler. We have hired umpteen bad coaches in a row. Every trade we make we get taken like the new guy in the prison shower.
I’m starting to think maybe petrie sorta kinda isn’t doing a good job…

otis29 - January 25, 2012
Wow, really?
Cousins has shown flashes of being a true game-changer. Do you just not trust his head?
nbrans - January 25, 2012
Don't trust his head, don't trust his work ethic
Love his skills though.
Again, I’d rather not trade either of them.

Skeptical Dawg - January 25, 2012
Yeah, I'm much more comfortable with him taking the 2's and driving (although that 3 was nice).
Let Jimmer shoot the 3’s
feelgood - January 25, 2012
IT has useful qualities, but shooting has never been his strong suit.
He never shot even 40% from 3 in college. I’m sure he’ll develop a more reliable shot, but his strength will alway be utilizing his quickness to pester the other team to death.
Calvin Wells - January 25, 2012
Jimmer giving up his body going for loose balls.
Nice to see.
Skeptical Dawg - January 25, 2012

Dirkula - January 25, 2012
I don't know why Smart doesn't play Honeycutt/Greene more. They hustle, play D and don't chuck up shots to meet their daily quota. It's not like we're competing for a championship at this point

Dear Tom Ziller,
For games like this, you need to have a thread ready to put up where we can do running commentary about something else on TV.
Hoarders, a college game, Barney Miller reruns on Nick, whatever. When we wallow like this, it’s bad for everyone.

Taht means something. Would be less impressed if he was just putting up numbers in garbage time.
Even tonight played well in first quarter when we were in the game.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012

He needs to work on his defense.

yeah, it may help out just a tad…
DiegoKing - January 25, 2012
The only real pieces the Kings have are Cousins and Evans
And I don’t think Evans will ever be consistent or comfortable as the primary facilitator of an offense. He’s got a scorer’s mentality. People forget that he came into college as a 2 and it was his college coach that put him in the PG role. He’s not Rose or Wall who were far more polished as PG’s than Evans. Evans is a scorer and should embrace that role.
KingsCoach - January 25, 2012
I wish we could see what Evans could do
if he didn’t have the pressure of running the team on him.
StevenG - January 25, 2012
I just don't see that being the problem in these games
Team D is a problem
No threes who can hit 3s and play D is a problem.
Team panicking when the other team makes a run is a problem – need for veteran leadership
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
WE'll see
He played PG in HS, second half of year in college and has been distributing well in Smart’s offense.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
A lot of guys "play" pg in high school
Doesn’t mean they are a pg. Evans made his rep on the summer circuit as a scorer. Knight played “pg” in high school and he was his team’s primary option on offense. On the summer circuit he played with Kenny Boynton coming up. He was a lot more of a facilitator on the AAU circuit then.
KingsCoach - January 25, 2012
Most high school PGs are scorers because they are elite compared to players around them
But was responding to this
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
I agree with you
But a. High School b-ball is inconsequential for talent projections in this day and age. and b. You want a laugh go look at Reke’s recruiting profile on Scout at some of the comments.
Strengths:
3 point shooting
Ability to create
Big time scorer from wing
Weaknesses
Decision making
Rebounding
Shooting off the dribble.
KingsCoach - January 25, 2012
Agree about HS ball
He needs to keep learning, but he’s done a much better job distributing. He needs to keep learning nuances of the game, but the biggest issue to me is his shooting.
He won’t reach his potential until he can hit the midranger. Same was true of Westbrook and Rose.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
So taking JUST their points in the paint.. we won by 1!!...
J.R 50 - January 25, 2012

SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
So let me see... We need.....
SF who can do anything
Veteran PG (means JF/IT lose time)
Shot blocker
LEADERSHIP
Pdidd - January 25, 2012
if chuch hayes was playing they would of only had 50points in the paint. Seriously though im telling you guys when hayes get in we will be a different team.
CousinsEvansDUO - January 25, 2012
Hope
Your right…
Howard Nevens IV - January 25, 2012
Hayes is a post defender.
They are not scoring on post plays, they are scoring on fastbreaks and backdoor cuts. I honestly dont know how much he would have helped.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
Agree. Hayes would help by not letting Nene abuse us at will.
But he’s not single handedly going to fix our team D.
Now if he could play SF……
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
He'll bring leadership too
Pdidd - January 25, 2012

If you’re that desperate?
The guy’s played 7 minutes all season. There’s probably a reason.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
to try to block a shot

Players I don't want on the Kings:
JT, JJ, Garcia, Outlaw, SALMONS, Greene. All of them need to leave now.

J.R 50 - January 25, 2012

Except Greene And JT
Howard Nevens IV - January 25, 2012
I'd keep the first three
I still want to see what Hickson can do if this team ever finds a coherent system.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
He can dunk on a fast break.
Trade him to the suns for Dudley.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
I would love Dudley on this team
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
Agree on JJ. Don't love him, but he's young and athletic and has decent form on his J
If he starts hitting the 17 footer and can learn some team D he can be a nice piece.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
I am just very dejected right now.
I didn’t expect a lot, but I sure didn’t expect regular 30+ point losses. It’s time to show Petrie the door.
God I hope the Maloofs sell. This organization is in shambles.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
I give Petrie to the end of the year. No midseason replacement.
But the holes are obvious. He needs to fill them or we need a GM who can.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
He needs to be fired before the trade deadline
Before he does more damage
dampania - January 25, 2012
What the hell happened to him.
I once admired him so much that it was my childhood dream to replace him. This is getting pathetic.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
Well, you may have your shot at your dream soon ;)
He’s drafted well and brought in some young talent, but his offseason signings have been underwhelming to put it nicely. He needs to fix those ASAP if he still can.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
play garcia and salmons less than 10 minutes. play honeycutt 20-25minutes. he hustles like hell, moves great off the ball which is what we LACK. he rebounds steals and blocks…seriously he is our best option at the 3…and jimmer would be scoring like crazy but the problem is he isn’t getting enough plays for him. cousins also needs plays ran for him because he always has to force tough shots.
CousinsEvansDUO - January 25, 2012
and we picked up Salmons for his defense?
nothingbutnet - January 25, 2012
Let's ask Petrie
Fans: “Geoff, what was your reasoning again as to why you picked up Salmons? It seems to have escaped us.”
Slam_Dunk - January 25, 2012
The $24,000,000 Abomination
I’m all for letting a guy play out of his slump, but this is getting a bit ridiculous!
nothingbutnet - January 25, 2012
We should buy him out.
Amnesty Garcia. No way in the world we should keep his scum around.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
Garcia at least tries. Salmons is just painful to watch. Garcia can be a 12th man.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
JT doesnt rebound anymore.
And he plays no defense. Greene can’t shoot, dribble, pass, and hasn’t developed as a defender.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
JT hasn't rebounded well this season, for sure
But he’s a good backup big – can play both frontcourt positions in a pinch.
I think he’s a valuable piece as long as you aren’t expecting him to carry your team. I’d keep him around.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
wtf
What the f! Why is no one on the kings as angry me or anyone else at the bar? Double digit deficits need to end man, show some effort for all 6 of your fans left….
Ps, fuck you John Salmons.
Anton - January 25, 2012 via mobile
Salmons
Is terrible. He should not be a starter in this league. Best lineup for the Kings would be Jimmer, Evans, Thornton, Cousins, Thompson/Hayes when he gets back.
KingsCoach - January 25, 2012
We’d be better starting 4 people and Kara Lawson than Salmons…
Anton - January 25, 2012 via mobile
We need a SF and a bench
Seriously, we were running IT (who didn’t get going until garbage time) JJ, Garcia, Outlaw, and Greene. Thats FOUR guys who couldn’t throw a ball into the ocean let alone a hoop. Plus Salmons in the starting lineup is just embarrassing. Just thoroughly destroyed by Gallo.
I thought the starters were doing pretty well. The bench came in and all of a sudden the team was down by 17. Sad.
Scirocco - January 25, 2012
We've potentially got a bench
We just need some starters.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
perfect
nothingbutnet - January 25, 2012
Our starters are fine. We need to get healthy. With Jimmer's Emergence
We’ve got Jimmer/Thornton/Reke/Hayes/Cousins who are all starter material. Then you’ve got IT, Greene, Thompson, Hickson who have shown potential. The other guys just need to go.
Scirocco - January 25, 2012
Disagree
This team needs a legit PG badly, as well as a consistent defensive big. Hmmmm
dampania - January 25, 2012
Hayes is a defensive big
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
defensive small
J.R 50 - January 25, 2012
Need a rim protector alongside cousins
dampania - January 25, 2012
The whole reason we signed Hayes is to clog the lane and shut down big men
You haven’t seen him but a few games with a new team under PW. Give the man a chance before you write him off. Houston fans adored the guy.
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
I'm not writing him off
I thought he was a great signing for the team. Great to have in a 3 big rotation and to check the other teams best big in a man-to-man situation. However, I think holding down the other teams bigs is least of the Kings defensive worries right now.
dampania - January 25, 2012
True
But I really liked what I saw from him early this season. He was quarterbacking the defense and stepping up when guards tried to drive into the paint. I don’t think he’s an all star. But I definitely think he would have helped in a game like tonight.
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
No doubt
dampania - January 25, 2012
A vet PG would be nice. Wanted us to get one this offeseason for the bench.
But Jimmer and Evans should be a nice combination going forward.
SF is our real hole in the starting lineup. Team is starting to play better offense and move the ball. But we really seem to be playing 5 on 4 our there on offense. And none of the SFs are making up for that with their defense either.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
Lmao!
Good one Otis
Allbenji - January 25, 2012 via mobile
IT will be fine
he only attempted 1 shot because he knew he was cold. Smart move instead of throwing up bricks.
Skeptical Dawg - January 25, 2012
We have three guys on this team who can be starters in this league.
Tyreke, DMC, and Jimmer.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
SF and vet leadership
Our bench will look better with Thornton and Hayes back.
Bringing JT, Jimmer/Thornton, JJ off bench is alright. SF position is brutal though.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
To the person who said we should have signed Brandon Knight
He is averaging exactly as many t/o s as assists per 36 this season 3.6 of each. That is not exactly impressive.
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
You mean "drafted", not "signed" right?
He hasn’t played well, but he’s less than 20 games into his career.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
Yep
I shouldn’t post angry. Where’s my hot editor?
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
BTW
Not saying he won’t be good, just that he hasn’t shown he is who we should have picked yet.
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
Way too early to call that battle in either direction.
People are understandably frustrated but sometimes frustration clouds judgement. A lot of emotional statements made in these game threads.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
Definitely too early too call
That was more of the point I was trying to make.
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
Agree with you
Someday all of the trade Jimmer/Evans/Cousins posts from these game threads will be humorous.
Not the night of a 30 point blowout though.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
Word
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
Well Said
There is no doubt that this is a passionate fan base and we care a lot aboutt our team. Not trying to be mean but we are lucky to even still have this steam yes im angry frustrated just like all of you
Howard Nevens IV - January 25, 2012
And a lot of folks thought Knight
Had the highest ceiling of any guard in the draft. Of course there’s going to be a period of adjustment (especially on a crap squad like the Pistons) but I think Knight’s ceiling is FAR higher than Jimmer’s especially as a PG.
KingsCoach - January 25, 2012
He's also 20 and averaging almost 32 minute per game
Definitely being thrown into the fire at a young age.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
Ceiling gets you nothing
It’s totally subjective. All you can judge a player on is what they are actually accomplishing.
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
Jimmer's winning me over
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
although really like Knight too (definitely struggling to run any kind of offense in Detroit but he sure seems like a hard worker trying to make the right decisions)
wallywagon11 - January 25, 2012
Yep
lack of off season is killing them both.
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
Keith Smart is rocking the blue
No wonder the Nuggets won
Reke_Havoc13 - January 25, 2012
Hickson seems like an awful fit next to Cousins
Cuz is a star 4/5 moving forward, Hickson is way too undersized and seems to have awful shot selection and an a poor defender… but other than that hes great
OKO - January 25, 2012
i suggest a defense/rebounding center next to Cuz
Dalembert, Tyson Chandler, Jordan type center, or try Whiteside or would love to see Javele McGee in a Kings uni next to Big Cuz
OKO - January 25, 2012
I suggest Ryan Anderson.
caseycheesecake - January 25, 2012
McGee is a crazy person.
N.O.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
Lockout has not been favorable to young teams that haven't played together
Reke_Havoc13 - January 25, 2012
Very true.
Slam_Dunk - January 25, 2012
Agree. Tonight stunk. But reserving judgement till late February/March
Schedule gets easier. Hopefully Smart can improve our team D.
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
I think that was to be expected
But I also thought with the tough schedule that our young legs would outlast some teams. But we consistently look like the slower, older team for some reason.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
Smart studies the tape after the game to share with the team the next day.
Slam_Dunk - January 25, 2012
With His
Bottle of Booze close by
Howard Nevens IV - January 25, 2012
lol
Slam_Dunk - January 25, 2012
Maybe Hayes and Thornton will help.
Salmons just cannot get minutes anymore for quite a while.
Ichiban - January 25, 2012
Thornton doesn't pass.
And unless he is shooting well, he doesnt try.
DWeissbart - January 25, 2012
He averaged 3.4 assists and over 20 pts with us last season
He will get his grove back
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
Thornton's a gun
I’ve never been that infatuated with him. On a team with crappy ball movement as is and no true pg it’s just another example of bad roster management.
KingsCoach - January 25, 2012
I can see him as a valuable piece of the puzzle
Since he can get hot and actually put the ball in the basket at times.
otis29 - January 25, 2012
He is a shooting guard
His job is to score. He’s pretty much what you want at the two. Not much of a defender. But he never has been.
SavageBeast - January 25, 2012
Thornton is not going anywhere with his contract
no point in talking about it, anything moving forward includes MT

Smart: "We've got to close the paint."
Maybe Chuck will help with this.
Slam_Dunk - January 25, 2012
That's why we pay Smart the big bucks. Those keen observations no one else sees :)
SPTSJUNKIE - January 25, 2012
Who would have guessed that closing the paint was an issue?

Maybe these losses will inspire tyreke……this is his team and hes letting it fall apart..maybe he will realize he get insane determination to improve and start playing like michael jordan..i mean he is as good as michael on something (not his jumper lol) but yeah tyreke will improve the next couple games I think (and hope!)

Tyreke and Jordan
Shouldn’t even be in the same sentence.

Jimmer 12-20 from 3 the last 4 games
I think if he stays at 60 percent the rest of his career he will be ok

Did anybody ever read the story about Tyreke in Play Their Hearts Out?
About how he came down to play on his AAU’s club younger team for a game in a tournament because Demtrius Walker was making fun of the kids on the younger team and talking garbage. He was 13 or 14 at the time and wanted to teach Walker a lesson in humility?
It’s an anecdote like that where you can see the guy’s got the potential for greatness in him but there’s a disconnect right now imho.

Tyreke has weaknesses
with brains, effort, shooting, ankle injuries, and leadership, hmmm, not sure I see the potential for greatness
OKO - January 25, 2012

I suppose Aykis should write a generic template for these blowout losses.
It would certainly appear to save him quite a bit of time this season.
