The Sacramento Kings are on national television once this year, on February 9 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. It's poetic in a number of ways, not the least of which is that the Thunder were the last team to be relocated, and our Kings might be the next.
While our friends in the blog game have been excellent at helping us spread the word about the situation here over the past 11 months, this is really the last opportunity for Sacramento to speak to a truly national audience about why the NBA needs to stay here. It's also one of our best opportunities as fans to speak to the greater Sacramento region -- those who watch SportsCenter, those who watch the local news -- about how important the next couple months are in terms of securing the plans for a new entertainment and sports complex. Because it will be on TNT, this game will be covered heavily locally and nationally.
So we need to turn that gym out on February 9. Here We Stay and Sactown Royalty are asking fans to do the same thing we did against the Clippers and Thunder last season: turn up, and turn it out. Blow the doors off. Get the building full -- the Kings are running a few specials, including two lower-level tickets for $65 -- and wear black and get loud. Bring some creative signs to get onto Inside the NBA, too.
Ed will dropping in chant instructions next week, and we'll be asking for volunteers to a) pass out flyers/chant sheets at the entrances before the game, and b) print their own and pass them around their row/section. In the meantime, let's get this game sold out so we can remind the nation why Sacramento has the best fans in the league. We can see the light. Let's go get it.

Why does it have to be against maybe the best team in the West.
I am going with the family unit but will be bummed if this is a 30 point blow-out
nothingbutnet - January 27, 2012
Two words: National Television
No better night to show how loyal this fanbase is and how hard we’re still fighting to keep OUR team in town
edm7 - January 27, 2012
I hope everyone stays and keeps cheering even if its a blow out
SharkKings49 - January 27, 2012
Count me in.
Slam_Dunk - January 27, 2012
Nevermind that.
Being a fan of the Sacramento Kings has never been about cheering for a winner. It’s about enjoying and showing gratitude for the entire experience, from the highest highs to the lowest lows. It’s about defiant, irrational pride. We don’t want want Kobe’s kind of respect or even Durant’s kind of respect, because Sacramento never has and never will be gifted anything, the team nor the city. The respect we want and the respect we have had is the only kind of respect we can get- that of a team, a city, and fans that celebrate our victories with true appreciation and persevere through difficulties with whatever hope we can cling to.
We filled our crappy arena in last year’s finale to cheer our crappy team for what seemed would be the very last time. We waved signs, we chanted, we screamed ourselves hoarse, we emptied 26 years of blood from our hearts as our team fought hard, fell behind, heroically charged back, and ultimately fell short. Then we kept right on cheering, the game already lost. We’ve been given another chance to fill our crappy arena and cheer our crappy team, to wring our hearts of any blood left in there. I hope the guys in black give the fans in the arena good reason to cheer, but the real game being played and the real reason to cheer will have nothing to do with the scoreboard on that night.

WELL SAID MAN!
I know i’m new around here but this might be the best comment I’ve ever read on StR! Kudos SIR!
kfipp - January 27, 2012
I get your point
but bottom the is, we watch to be entertained. Its a $200 outing for my family on a budget that does not afford these types of events on a very frequent basis. A competitive contest certainly is a hell of a lot more fun to watch and would bode well for the ratings.
A 30 point blow-out will give the media more amunition that it already has about the teams potential relocation and certainly not help the cause to keep them here in Sactown.
nothingbutnet - January 27, 2012
Not diminishing your personal investment in the game/team, or your expected return from it
just saying that this one particular game, our only national broadcast this year and potentially the final national broadcast (of anything) in Sacramento, days before the City Council will probably be making a big vote on the next phase in the arena process, a few weeks before the NBA’s deadline to “put up or shut up”… this one game means a lot more than whether or not our guys can hang with the best in the West. Would be fantastic if these Kings can somehow rise above all of this season’s problems and give us a hell of a show on the court (like last year’s Here We Stay against the Clips and finale against the Villains), but I think the more important outcome of this game will be the fans showing that we’re far from done fighting, whether the team is getting blown out or not. Either way, I think you’ll get your money’s worth that night if you and your family can appreciate the entire experience.
AnotherStupidSN - January 27, 2012
If there was only one game to attend this season, this is probably it,
although the opening game against the Lakers is a close second. While I see Nothingbutnet’s position of wanting a win, which would certainly enhance the overall experience, I expect this to be a memorable experience nevertheless.
Slam_Dunk - January 27, 2012
I get your point, nothingbutnet
$ 200 is a lot of money.
But let me tell you this. I only recently became really invested in the Kings (because they drafted Omri Casspi). I st at my home here on the other side of the world, in the middle of the night, watching the game through some crappy illegal feed with the sound low and the noise from the crowd barely audible because I didn’t want to wake my family.
I don’t remember a whole lot about the game itself. I remember the incredible atmosphere, the people in the crowd, the chants, signs and banners, the shirts, the emotional breakdown of Napear and Jerry, the players coming back to the crowd after the game, all the comments here at Sactown Royalty.
I sat there in my dark little offices thousands of miles away with goosebumps and tears in my eyes. Hell, I’m almost crying again when I write this. The sense of pride, love and community from a city I have never been in touched me, no, hit me hard. To me, it was an unbelievable experience and I envied the people in Arco/PB, and admire those who have worked to make it happen. It opened mu eyes to the fact that everybody in the world can help to make changes, even in small things.
Finally, this game represents hope, and I think people need hope in their lives. There is hope they might beat the Thunder (hell, even Washington managed to do that this season, so why not the Kings?) and hope that they will stay in Sacramento.
I don’t know if $ 200,- is a lot of money for all that I described, and besides that also the ability to see some of the best players in the league live, but I don’t want you to regret not going in future years. So I hope this helps you to make an informed choice.
Go Kings!

Remember keep it to a few simple meaningful chants
last time , most of the crowd couldn’t understand them well enough to join in. I suggest no more than 4, one of which should be here we Burkle (kidding).
Here we stayed is the most obvious.
Maybe a Sac is Back .
I will be there with a few others shouting loud and proud.
ElRonToro - January 27, 2012
Awesome
I really like Sac is Back. Good double meaning too.
Honestly we haven’t thought too much about chants yet because we’r enot crazy creative. We’ll depend on the masses to come up with some godo ones.
edm7 - January 27, 2012
Maybe
We could start a #hashtag on twitter and a post on here (like we had for Jerry’s nicknames) to get the best chants.
ThomasGQ - January 27, 2012 via iPhone app
I'll be posting one tomorrow

Not to be confused with
“Sac my back!”, which you never want to say when vfettke is sitting behind you.

Well, certaintly have the last time we played the Thunder at home etched in the old memory bank
good good times
wallywagon11 - January 27, 2012
You guys should BOO the crap out of them as well, especially when durant or westbrook dunks,..just boo at the top of your lungs and let them know we don’t appreciate them dunking in this arena.
CousinsEvansDUO - January 27, 2012
I always thought that would be the coolest thing ever
to go into an arena of people cheering against you being athletic enough to jump up and slam a ball through the cylinder and just hear the chorus of “BOOOOOOO.” I think I’d go out like a heel on WWF (or just Stephen Jackson) and just beg for more.
wallywagon11 - January 27, 2012
Don't forget who is still the chair of the relocation committee
Just saying…
edm7 - January 27, 2012
this game is so not a coincidence
I honestly don’t even remember the calender of the whole arena stuff but wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest if February 13th was one of the important dates on it.
wallywagon11 - January 27, 2012
You know what's funny
Guess who we are playing on March 1st without looking at the calendar. Could be a coincidence but you never know
edm7 - January 27, 2012
okay not looking so could be wrong
but would have to be Clips or Lakers. Guessing Lakers although don’t recall if we have two home games against them or not
wallywagon11 - January 27, 2012
Clippers
Pretty much one year after the original Here We Stay night they come back again at the relocation deadline
edm7 - January 27, 2012
I also thought of that
its great time to send of message to the Sac Council and the NBA . If the country raves about how great the fans are and how Sac should keep its team that will put additional pressure to get things done.
ElRonToro - January 27, 2012
That's the goal for sure
And you never know…. we may just invite the city council to show up
/wink
edm7 - January 27, 2012
I also love how the NBA marketing people come into town
and when the website stuff went crazy we ended up with ThinkBIG and then when the basketball season starts all of a sudden “BIG things are coming”
wallywagon11 - January 27, 2012
Never thought about that
Really good observation
edm7 - January 27, 2012
I have it on good authority....
That Clay Bennett will be in the house.
jjham15 - January 27, 2012
And we got confirmation
Might be a nice night to say ‘thank you’ also
edm7 - January 27, 2012
I'm conflicted with Clay.
On one hand he represents everything wrong with the NBA in how he moved the Sonics.
On the other, he seemed to play a part in our team staying here last year.
chenp22 - January 27, 2012
Yeah, it's tough
I think it should be enough to show him how good this market is. Just to refresh his memory a little bit
edm7 - January 27, 2012
After our game against the Thunder...
he should also go visit Memphis, Atlanta, and Philly (all playoff teams) and notice all the empty seats in the house.
Wonderchild - January 27, 2012
I'm not conflicted with Clay
a roadblock is a roadblock and I love my roadblocks
wallywagon11 - January 27, 2012
Just a heads up
I’ve been checking how many tickets are still available for the game (manually count at ticketmaster) and on Monday they had about 3,500 left. As of right now, there are a bit just over 2,000 so get them soon. The Kings have some good deals going on right now, take advantage!
edm7 - January 27, 2012
Just bought mine, but looks like they are going fast. Not too many lower bowl seats left.
Slam_Dunk - January 27, 2012
Yeah, saw that too
The Kings have a special of 2 lower level seats for $65 so it looks like those are moving fast
edm7 - January 27, 2012
Just a few pairs left when I saw
If I miss out, I’ll be happy with the $10-25 range. With enough beer, it feels like I’m up close.

Just a few thoughts
On the flyer can you add a comment for everyone to jump during the Goon Squad jump. It would look very cool if we could get the whole arena to do it.
We also need someone with an in with the King’s to get us just one moment of silence, preferably during opening tip where we can do a here we stayed or Sac is back chant.
We should also email Chris and Kenny to see if they could get TNT to send the 2 of them onsight or at least do a special feature on the show.
ElRonToro - January 27, 2012
I'm wondering if they realize
it’d be a great move to send C-Webb to this game and do the color commentating.
edm7 - January 27, 2012
Rec'd for the best idea evar.
Would LOVE for C-Webb to color commentate this game. If Dirk can jump in and “commentate” on the Mavs getting destroyed and enjoy it, C-Webb can come in for his old team and do the commentary.
HarveySpecter - January 27, 2012
Great idea
I think we may try to persuade TNT to come out. A longshot, but …

The Goon Squad Jump would be a risky play,
since that rickety old building will probably collapse around the lot of us…
Balky Needs - January 27, 2012
So then we'll have no choice but to build a new one!!!
edm7 - January 27, 2012
Yeah, I thought of that as possible upside
Until I realized; with our team crushed under the rubble and a large part of the fan base along with them, it probably wasn’t worth it.
Balky Needs - January 27, 2012
Good point! ;)
edm7 - January 27, 2012
Hell if everyone in the arena did the goon squad jump, they wouldnt need to pay for a demolition cost for the new old barn..The lawsuits wouldnt be pretty though

Win or Defeat, It’s our team they deserve to have a No. 1 supporter on the block and that is the whole Sacramento community. Lets support the Kings and show to the whole world that this team belongs to this city. But i hope the Kings will provide the needed fire for them to win against the West leading Thunder, i think we haven’t beaten them for a while now. Sorry for that but i just hope all players will step up and fight a competitive basketball not just strolling around and letting the team getting buried by another blowout loss. Go Kings

Quick update from a ticketmaster count
Lower level appears to be sold out! and there are by my count less than 1,000 tix left for upper level. The Kings have a great deal going on right now: 2 upper level tickets for $25 plus fees. I wouldn’t be surprised if they sell out by tonight so if you’re still thinking about it, it may be time to make a move.
Chant and flyers post coming soon too.
