That was absolutely amazing. With all the hype going into the game beforehand and the fact that Oklahoma City was the best team in the league, this was a night that seemed like it could have been ripe for disappointment. But it lived up to all the hype and more as the Kings pulled out the victory over the Thunder.
In many ways, this game was a parallel to last year, and the efforts to keep the Kings from moving to Anaheim. Not many people thought that Sacramento would succeed in keeping the team here, just as not many expected the Kings to win tonight. In both cases, the fans indirectly influenced the outcome by showing their support. The grassroots movements last year spurred Mayor Johnson and the city to action to begin the process of saving this team and keeping it here, and tonight the sellout crowd energized the players all night long. In the end, that support was rewarded with victory, improbable as it may have seemed.
The Kings as a team didn't have a single individual who truly stood out as the hero of this game. It was a team effort all around, with every player on the court making a meaningful contribution. The Kings were also relentless and fearless attacking the basket tonight, scoring 60 points in the paint. That's despite the efforts of Serge Ibaka, who had 10 of Oklahoma City's 17 blocks. Tyreke Evans led the Kings with 22 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. The Kings also had 21 assists to just 12 turnovers, half of those occurring in the first quarter, meaning they took better care of the ball as the game went along. The bench also outscored Oklahoma City's bench 34-19.
Oklahoma City had big production from their main weapons. Kevin Durant had 27 points on 9-19 from the field, James Harden had 17 on 5-11 from the field, and Russell Westbrook led all scorers with 33 on 15-26 from the field. That's over three-quarters of the Thunder's points coming from three guys. Those three players also combined for 15 turnovers though (Westbrook had 7 himself) and that was a big problem for the Thunder. They had just 13 assists to 23 turnovers, as the Kings defense did a good job of deflecting and swiping at the ball all night.

The game was competitive throughout. Neither side really ever got out to a super comfortable lead, with the greatest lead by the Kings being 9 points and 8 points for Oklahoma City. That 9 point lead for Sacramento came as the team got off to their first great start in a while, starting the game off with an 11-2 run in the first 3 minutes. After a timeout, the Thunder came out with their own 13-1 run and it was off to the races.
The first half, particularly the 2nd quarter, saw Sacramento's bench make a big impact. DeMarcus Cousins picked up 3 early fouls in the 1st quarter, and was replaced by Chuck Hayes. Donté Greene, J.J. Hickson, Isaiah Thomas and Jimmer Fredette joined Hayes early on in the 2nd quarter, and that was the lineup that managed to maintain the first quarter lead. Hayes had his best scoring night as a Sacramento King, scoring 8 points on 4-6 shooting, all of which came in the 2nd quarter. With Cousins out, that was a big plus for Hayes to step in like that.
Jason Thompson also did a good job in Cousins' absence, particularly rebounding and passing the ball. JT has done a very good job as of late at finding cutters, and it's clear that there are designed plays for JT to do this. JT had a nice bounce-back game after a couple of disappointing performances, finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Donté Greene led the bench with 10 points on 4 shots (he went 5-6 from the line). He also chipped in 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in just 16 minutes. His defense on Kevin Durant was about as good as you can get against a scorer of Durant's caliber, particularly down the stretch.
J.J. Hickson added 4 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks in his 9 minutes off the bench. Jimmer Fredette came in and played like a point guard, distributing the ball very nicely. He finished with 5 points and 4 assists. Isaiah Thomas brought the energy as usual, and while his only statistical contribution was 7 points, he played some very good defense.
The 3rd quarter saw Oklahoma City come out of the gates strong, Russell Westbrook in particular. Westbrook scored 16 of his points in the quarter, hitting shot after shot. Westbrook isn't known as a particularly good jump shooter, but he didn't look like he was having much of an issue during this stretch. The Kings were able to weather the storm though and finished the quarter on a 6-1 run, cutting the Thunder lead to just two heading into the final, pivotal quarter.
The 4th quarter started off much the same as the third, with the Thunder looking to wrest momentum away from the Kings and seal the victory. At the 5:56 mark, Kevin Durant passed to Daequan Cook in the corner for a three to cap off a 17-7 run by the Thunder, giving them a 95-87 lead, their largest of the game.
The Kings weren't quite dead yet. At this point, Tyreke Evans, Marcus Thornton and Donté Greene came back into the game. Thornton had been quiet all night, but featured heavily in the rest of the quarter. After getting the ball stolen away from him by Westbrook, Thornton stayed with him in transition and managed to block the layup attempt, returning possession to the Kings. Tyreke took it the other way and laid it up off the glass, allowing Donté to come in and mop-up.
Durant then missed a three and Marcus took it all the way to the basket, and had his layup attempt blocked once more by Serge Ibaka. Lo and behold though, this wasn't a clean block, it was goaltending, and Marcus' layup counted. The Kings managed a stop on the other end and tried the same thing again, this time with Tyreke Evans, but this time Ibaka really did get the block and Westbrook was off to the races. DeMarcus Cousins was back however and set up good position, easily drawing the charge.
The next couple of possessions were sloppy on both sides, and neither team managed to score until Tyreke Evans found Marcus Thornton at the three point line. Thornton nailed the three and cut Oklahoma City's lead to just one point with 2:45 remaining. Kevin Durant answered right back with a jumper of his own, but not to be denied, Marcus Thornton got open in the corner and hit yet another three to tie the game at 97.
The Thunder tried going to Durant again, but this time Sacramento's defense forced a bad pass that led to a backcourt violation. The Kings got it inside to DeMarcus Cousins, and while he missed his first attempt, he got the ball back and managed to get fouled by Ibaka, earning a trip to the line. The foul was Ibaka's 5th, a huge one considering his impact on the defensive side of the ball for the Thunder. DeMarcus only converted one free throw, but did manage to give the Kings a 98-97 lead with 1:37 left. The lead was short lived however, as Westbrook quickly brought it up and hit another jumper, giving the Thunder the lead right back.
On the ensuing possession, the Kings found Donté in the corner. Rather than shoot it, Donté drove to the basket and managed to draw the critical 6th foul on Serge Ibaka. To put the cherry on top, he also hit both of his free throws, and Sacramento led 100-99 with just over a minute left. The excitement and tension in the arena was a palpable, living thing at this point. The Kings had a real chance to win it if they maintained their composure and kept up the pressure on the defensive end.
That's exactly what they did too. Coming out of the timeout, Kevin Durant had trouble finding room to operate, so he kicked the ball out to Westbrook in the corner, as Tyreke Evans came to double Durant. Westbrook was open but opted to drive, but as he started his drive his heel went out of bounds and it was another Thunder turnover. On the opposite end, with no Ibaka on the court, Evans took it straight to the basket, getting fouled by James Harden in the process. With Evans heading to the line, chants of "M-V-P" began to break out. Those quickly died out as he rimmed out the first attempt, but all was forgiven when the second one fell through. The Kings now had a two point lead with under a minute remaining.
The Thunder didn't waste much time, and Kevin Durant launched a straight away three pointer from the top of the key that just missed off the back iron. DeMarcus Cousins snatched up the rebound and immediately was fouled, accompanied by a thunderous roar from the crowd. These free throws by DeMarcus would make it a two possession game. Cousins had only gone 1 for 2 on his last attempt, but easily sank both of these, making it 103-99 with 27 seconds left. Despite the early foul trouble, Cousins finished with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, a block, and two huge drawn charges.
Scott Brooks drew up a play for Russell Westbrook to attack the basket coming out of the timeout. As he began his attempt, the referees called a foul on Marcus Thornton. It was Sacramento's foul to give, but also Marcus's 6th foul. He finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block. 10 of those points came in the 4th quarter.
Coach Smart went with Isaiah Thomas as Thornton's replacement, knowing Thomas would have to guard the much bigger Westbrook. Isaiah did a great job of staying in front and pressuring Westbrook, and Westbrook ended up losing control of the ball out of bounds. The referees needed to review it, and the replay confirmed it was Sacramento ball. Victory was almost assured as long as the team could hit their free throws, and the crowd knew it.
The Kings did hit their free throws, and after Kevin Durant's last 28 foot three point attempt rimmed out and was snatched up by Tyreke Evans, the arena exploded in jubilation. Free Tacos! The win is nice too.
All in all, it was a fantastic night for the Kings, their fans, and the city of Sacramento. I was extremely proud of our team's effort, and to everyone who came out to support the team. Magical nights like this are why we've been fighting so hard this past year.

My guess
10 minutes to write the recap. 2 hours to think of the amazing title. Worth every minute.

Great recap, Aykis!
Now, on to another significant victory on the 14th!

Letsgokings13 - February 10, 2012
Fantastic write-up
And very exciting game. It is nice to see so many players make solid contributions. We actually looked like a deep and versatile team tonite.

The Spurs and L*kers victories were great
But this one was tremendous, and our biggest and most important one this season.

I am a 30 year old man.
This team, this city, this effort…it made me weep like i haven’t in a long, long time. I am so blessed to be a member of this strong, vibrant community.
RJinFairOaks - February 10, 2012
There is alot to be proud of
no doubt.

I'm 19 year old young man
And I feel the exact same way. Even though I now live in Phoenix, I was born in Sacramento and rep it to the fullest. I get a lot of shit for being a Kings fan, but it does not phase me one bit. I have Sacramento blood flowing through me, and I have it’s river as my tears. I bleed purple. I’ve converted 4 of my friends who disliked basketball into becoming rabid Sacramento Kings fans. The team, city, it’s people, are just like no other. God bless the Kings, Sacramento, it’s people, and especially the community of fans and great people like all of you. I too am blessed to be a part of this. Long live the Sacramento Kings and STR! Go Kings!
Letsgokings13 - February 10, 2012
I feel ya.
I wear my Kings hat all over the place in San Antonio, and have heard it all. Still, I wear it with my heart and soul full of pride.
unparde_7 - February 10, 2012
Proudly wearing my Tyreke Evans jersey
here in Ohio!
Cincy Kings Fan - February 10, 2012
I wear my Kings jersey when I go out here in snowy Chicago
And even the Bulls fans give me props (though we don’t talk much about that 35-point comeback much, sad to say)…this town does love it some NBA, and Reke and DMC are definitely on the radar here.
sj60615 - February 10, 2012
i know the feeling
I wore my kings stuff all over san diego when i lived there. got so much crap since most everyone was a l*ker fan! but i didnt care. Sacramento Kings Fan Forever!

I proudly wear my jersey, shirt, and snapback in LA
Constantly teased by L**er fans. But, they respect my love for this team. Last night was great and I’m just hoping for more great team play.
Feezy13 - February 10, 2012
You get teased?
I had my back in black C-Webb jersey on, and some random guy gave me mad respect because he said he was an awesome player, said he missed the old rivalry.
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
Repin in SD
Even got my GF from Hawaii watching every game with me. Her favorite player is the Hustlin Husky and even got her a shirt for V-day.

caseycheesecake - February 10, 2012
The Kings
did a great job of continuing to go into the paint to try and get points and fouls drawn. Despite the fact that Serge was blocking lots of shots, it was awesome to see the team did not give up on getting good looks in the paint. In the end, there commitment was rewarded when Ibaka fouled out and, more importantly, we got the big win! Also, kudos to Marcus Thornton for sticking with it despite the rough start. His two three’s back-to-back are a testament to what our young team could look like when everyone commits to team play. He knocked down to shots which were well set-up as opposed to going all “one-man army” and it worked (who’da thunk it).

In achieving the critical mass necessary to keep the Kings.
Case closed.

No joke, the comeback started...
When Slamson was rollerskating behind the first row. Now he just needs to skate through City Hall.

My first Kings game
I’m scared to go to more games cause I don’t know if today’s game could be matched. Never mind, I’m gonna work till I can retire and be a season ticket holder for the rest of my life.
ed_jr - February 10, 2012
First time attending a game that was almost at full capacity
and I have to say it was an exhilarating experience reviving the Arco Thunder with 17,000+ fans. I hope to experience more games like tonight
Reke_Havoc13 - February 10, 2012
Great tittle and a great write-up!
Hopefully lots of fans come out vs the phoenix suns game and we get another win! It would be incredible if we made the playoffs this season.

Great Win
Over a tough team. DMC and Tyreke said they wanted to be a tandem like Westbrool/Durant well tonight they were better than that. As a Kings fan living amongst Flakers fans in LA I’m so proud of the team and city. I hope they stay there.

Exhibit G - February 10, 2012
it really was great to see Reke run over to DMC like that
it’s the little things
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
Yes,
I could be accused of reading too much into this and perhaps I am, but I am sensing a subtle shift of power. It seems as though DMC may be stepping up to be the leader, which could be taking some of the pressure off of Reke.
Some very powerful images of our players bonding with each other. Amazing and very touching.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
I've always seen DeMarcus as the more vocal leader
But I also think Tyreke has stepped up in the last month or so leadership wise, encouraging his teammates and running the offense much better than he had been. I don’t think there’s a single stand out leader on this team yet, but I am seeing much improved chemistry between everyone on the court.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012
Did you guys catch what Smart said about them right after the game when they were all togethor?
He said something about getting them to agree on and off the court things will head in the right direction. Wish I had it recorded to go back and see exactly what he said.
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
agree on and off the court things?
what are they making top ten lists all day?
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
Greatest novels would be a good one to start with.
I take it you didn’t catch what he said. Just gave the impression they butt heads a little more than I thought.
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
I didn't
I honestly wasn’t sure what you meant though when you wrote “about getting them to agree on and off the court things.” Actually going to watch the post game press conference now.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
Yeah I should've worded that better
This was directly after the game, on their way to the locker room.
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
It was the postgame TNT interview I believe
Scirocco - February 10, 2012
I remember that, Smart was talking about getting them on the same page
I’m guessing there have been times where Tyreke and Demarcus haven’t seen eye to eye, but thats ok, because Smart has emphasized the family metaphor. Reke and DMC are brothers who may not always agree but always have eachothers’ backs.
All the down years have really made it fun to see these two monstrously talented kids becoming men before our eyes.
Scirocco - February 10, 2012

Thanks, I'm one of the lazy ones:)
That was nice, Smart standing between Reke and Cuz, talking about last night being as a template for the two of them working together, referring to them as stones and brothers for the team.
Cousins:“I am going to give my effort every night from now on.”

I didn’t scroll down. Instead I watched “The Decision” a hilarious parody on LeBron’s receding hairline and a call for him to “come home.”

I laughed at that when I watched it on TNT last night.
LOUiECOG - February 10, 2012

Reke leads by example, but DMC is the vocal one.

HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
For me, the best moment of the night, crowd-wise...
…was when the Kings, after having been down 95-87, got a couple buckets and a couple of stops. Evans found Thornton at the three-point line, Marcus lined it up, jumped, and drained it to get us to 95-94. The place went ape-shit, Brooks called an immediate timeout, and kudos to the sound man, the PA system starts blasting out the chorus of The Heavy’s “How Ya Like Me Now?”
It was absolutely perfect. Me and my 14-year-old jumping up and down singing along, many thousands right along with us. After that, the Kings doubled up the Thunder 12-6, and that was that. If I hadn’t needed to get the boy home on a school night, we’d still be there.
andy sims - February 10, 2012
Samesies.
ivan209 - February 10, 2012
That was definitely a high point.
That shift in momentum when it seemed that a win was possible, when the audience was willing and lifting the team toward victory.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
Watched the frenetic first quarter here on the East Coast before setting the DVR and going to bed. What a unbelievable game and great write-up! Can’t wait to sit down and watch the replay.
VirginiaKingsFan - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Great win, guys
Kings got stronger and more focused towards the end, and clearly had OKC confused in what they were trying to do on both ends of the court.
What does this team need to do to make this kind of performance consistent? From an outsider’s view, I get the same vibes that I did from the Timberwolves last season – a lot of talent and energy, but not quite able to figure out how to put it all together.
J.A. Sherman - February 10, 2012
You talking about OKC?
bignerd - February 10, 2012
Awesome write up per usual!
I was only able to catch the second half, and what a half it was! It took hours for my brain to shut down and I am dead ass tired now… and I am STILL SMILING!!

I couldn't go to sleep till about 2:30 AM
despite having to get up around 6. Adrenaline was just too much. If I had recorded the game I would have watched it again.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012
That's about when I fell asleep
and got up at 6 as well… Coffee…. Coffee… Coffee… Think of the game… Got to make it to 4:00pm…
When I couldn’t sleep I thought about putting the game on, then I realized that I’d end up watching the entire thing again and then have to redo the hour or so of trying to wind down. Turned on ESPN instead, where they of course, didn’t mention the Kings at all
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
I'm in this boat too
After getting home from the game, I wanted to catch Sportscenter to see what they had to say/admit about the Kings. Instead, they talk about Ibaka’s blocks this season…WTF?
#12Pick...who? - February 10, 2012
I prefer NBATV personally
But when I turned it on, it was a recap of the lakers/boston
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
I didn't get home until about 1:30, and the first thing I did was watch the recording.
Could not get enough of this amazing night. Truly was a special night.
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
I'm watching the recording right now.
The whole day yesterday was anticipation, then the game, then trying to wind down after the game. Today, it is reliving the game. I’m disappointed TNT missed the whole black out before the game with the Laker-Celtic OT. But, today, I get to watch the replay of things I missed last night. We had a lot of sloppy play, but we didn’t give up. Every guy can come away from the game knowing that he contributed to that win. Coach Smart is looking smarter everyday. He got a lot of props from TNT.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
Lol
That’s what I did
KingsFanInPortland - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Epic win is Epic
Arena hasn’t been that loud since we beat the Lakers in game one. Atmosphere was awesome.
Another note: DeMarcus is doing a much better job of playing with fouls. After picking up his 4th foul and sitting until about 7 and a half minutes left in the 4th, he played the rest of the game without picking up another foul.
rpmonkey - February 10, 2012
It helps that Smart has the confidence to play him despite the fouls
And realizing that OKC doesn’t have a big guy that will really hurt or attack you on offense. And DMC came up huge in the 2nd half, particularly with the charge. Someone has to have a GIF of the charge where he gets up and points his arm the other direction right? That was awesome.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012
DMC was huge in the second.
So glad when Smart put him back in. He really helped to turn the game around.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
I laughed when he pointed.
and laughed the second time too.
caseycheesecake - February 10, 2012
He did that twice.
chenp22 - February 10, 2012
Traveled across the country for work, BUT i stayed up and watched the game
I regret not getting much sleep but I would do all over again!! :)

So many thoughts on the game
Such a fantastic win. The team represented the city so well. And those of you who were in Arco, bravo. You were raucous, and it came through on the national broadcast. Despite some confusion about the current arena status, the TNT announcers were giving the city and fans of Sacramento a ton of love and support.
On the decision to have IT guard Westbrook when Thornton fouled out, I thought it was brilliant. Westbrook has the size on IT, but IT is one of the few players in the league fast enough to try to stay in front of Westbrook. For that one play, IT played a level of defense as good as you’ll ever see.
Ibaka was a force out there. The thing I loved to see, though, was that the Kings kept attacking the basket. The Kings could have settled for jumpers. Ibaka wouldn’t have as impressive of a stat line, but he would have had an even greater impact on the game. Instead the Kings kept attacking, eventually leading to Ibaka fouling out. Great to see the Kings knowing their identity and sticking with it.
The Kings played their hearts out to win this one. The Kings took 99 shots last night, compared to 77 for the Thunder. Creating turnovers with active defense, and working hard on the boards on both ends of the floor created more opportunities to win. The Thunder out shot the Kings last night, but the Kings out hustled the Thunder. That was the difference. And to echo a comment I’ve seen before: you’re going to have good shooting nights and bad shooting nights, but you can bring good effort to every game.
What a great win. Go Kings.
Exhibit G - February 10, 2012
Agree on the coach's decion to have IT on Westbrook - Brilliant
I was a little nervous at first, be he did an awesome job of defending him. IT never fails to surprise.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
Great point! Loved this too:
Shizzo - February 10, 2012
Yeah good point about continuing to attack Ibaka
Loved how Greene didn’t settle for the three towards the end of the game, everyone was attacking and contributing.
blknblu - February 10, 2012
Yeah, that was surprising from Greene. Good decision on his part.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
A series of words we aren't used to seeing in the same sentence
SPTSJUNKIE - February 10, 2012
To the people watching on TNT
How audible were the chants? How many of them came through. I still don’t think we should be doing chants when they are shooting free-throws, the booing drowns out the chants way too easy.
The Sacramento chants towards the end were pretty damn loud in the arena.
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
I watched the 4th quarter when I got home last night.
Trust me, we were LOUD.
SAC-RA-MEN-TO!

There were a few groups starting chants, but from where I was sitting(section 114). A guy in section 104 in a blue Kings hat stood out the most. He was really going at it to get the chants started on their freethrows, but just as he started to get them going it would be drowned out by the boo’s.
There was also a pretty good group at the top of 108(?).
Overall, great job to those chant starters in that 4th quarter. It was aamazing

HL,
First off, good stuff on the game! I was blown away in a nostalgia explosion. That’s the Arco and fans I remember. Love seeing the arena like that.
Second, I know I promised to give hell if the 6th man jersey wasn’t back. After that game, I really can’t – I’m just way too happy. My only question is, what gives?
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
Some of the jerseys
including the 6th man, the Kansas City ones, and the Pacific division champion banners were taken down for the installation of new Projection systems. They haven’t gotten around to putting them back up yet.

Also, this needs to be said again!
Kings have won 4 of their last 5! out of their last 7 games, their 3 losses have come with an average of a loss of just over 2.5 points! Kings are winning and in their losses, putting themselves in position to win!
Kings are also now 5-3 in games decided by 5 or fewer points, which I think is incredible for the youngest team in the league. Young teams normally really really struggle at finishing out close games
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Kings fan in NC stayed up till 1:30 am watching this masterpiece!
And it was well worth it, a great team effort by all and having the heart to finish while not giving up was what I’ve been waiting years to see. I love the energy that the Kings played with and I know a lot of it was filled by those in the arena. I felt like I was watching an early 2000s game with the atmosphere I saw on TV.
After the game on Inside the NBA it was good to see the Kings finally get some national respect. At halftime Shaq said the Kings lead was just a result of a “great team not getting up for a sorry team on the road” and that the Thunder would eventually win the game. I was so happy that the Kings prove him wrong and after the game he ate his words and said that if the Kings played like this consistently they should be in the playoff run. Hope to see more of this effort night and night out! GO KINGS

To everyone in attendance last night: You guys made me damn proud to be a Kings fan.
This was one of those special games that I don’t think I’ll ever forget. I recieved a some texts from people who don’t live in Sac and root for other teams who were amazed at how loud the arena was. My mom and step dad, who never watch basketball, said they stayed up late to watch the ending and had a great time watching the game. The “Defense” chants never stopped, even when OKC went on some runs. Reggie Miller made several comments about the energy of the cr

It's ok, we have Hassan Whiteside.
Shizzo - February 10, 2012
The first time this has been relevant in a while.
We can throw money at an SF in the offseason, and continue to develop Whiteside into an Ibaka that plays 15 minutes a night and gets 6 blocks.
VenomySnicket - February 10, 2012
If we could get half that many blocks at 15min a night
I’d say he is worth it.
LOUiECOG - February 10, 2012
I saw him last night
I told him that I can’t wait till he throws a block party out there, and he said, “If you think Ibaka can block, wait till I get out there”
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
Have no doubt he can block
But can he play man D, team D, shoot, rebound and move intelligently on offense?

So can he Lebron..Hey you didnt say clutch
Widowwolf - February 10, 2012
If Whiteside can give us half of what LeBron does for the first 46 minutes
I don’t care if he defecates on the logo at center court in the last two minutes. We’d find a way to work around that.
SPTSJUNKIE - February 10, 2012
LOL..So he will take a Dick Bavetta at center court?
Widowwolf - February 11, 2012
Marcus was the hero.
It takes looking past pure box score numbers, but Thornton won this game for Kings. They were ready to roll over, couldn’t score, trailed by eight with 5:30 left. Ibaka was feeling full of himself, Durant was on cruise control.
Thornton made just 3 out of 12 shots when he came into the game at the 5:30 mark. He scored on a goal tending that TNT announcers misidentified as valid block. You can’t pin the ball against the glass, that was the right call.
Then under 3:00 minutes, Thornton nails two 3s to close the gap from 4 to a tie. It takes cajones to drain two shots like that when you have been shooting blanks all night. It had the effect of stunning the Thunder, when they thought they were fully in control, gave all the momentum to the Kings, and the Thunder couldn’t make enough plays in final two minutes.
Marcus wants the ball when it counts. He didn’t shy away though his shot was off for three quarters. He was all net without hesitation. Thats hero sh*t in my book.
Also, I give kudos to Coach Smart for switching Salmons to Harden, leaving Greene on Durant and Tyreke matched with Westbrook. Those are our three best defenders on their primary scorers, and it slowed their attack in crunch time.
bench_blob - February 10, 2012
This
Cousins had some big plays, and Donte and Tyreke hit some key free throws, but I’m with you, Thorton was the man.
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
Also liked the pick DMC set to free up Thornton for the first of those 3's

Amazing Showing
Last night completely represented the value of having an NBA team for our town. Having Sacramento on national TV, the visuals of the city coming in and out of commercials, the announcers pumping up how loud and enthusiastic the Sacramento crowd was: that is the sort of intangible value that many of our (actually 4 out of 9) city leaders don’t understand.
gregory l - February 10, 2012
It's been a LOOOONG time since I've heard Arco be that lound
When Westbrook stepped out of bounds, the crowd absolutely ERUPTED…I mean it was so loud my ears hurt. The decibel meter (not sure how accurate it is) went all the up to the top—and the music wasn’t even playing!
I’d have to say it was much louder than even the Lakers game this season because we had so many pro-Kings faithful in the crowd.
Great win!

Can someone explain what the confusion was on TNT regarding the arena issue? Was it cleared up properly?
Did Chris Webber say anything of note? All of the fans were showing a lot of love…nice to see.
Sactown_Loyalty19 - February 10, 2012
I didn't hear any of them correct themselves after halftime.
I may have missed it though. There was definite conrnfusion though…
DiegoKing - February 10, 2012
Webber quickly mentioned they made a mistake in regards to the recent vote (didn't really explain it much and doubt he really understood it but just said he mispoke about it)
I really wouldn’t worry too much about it
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
No worries, Chris just made an honest mistake.
He loves the Kings and their fans and wants them to stay in Sac for good, there’s no doubt about that.
DiegoKing - February 10, 2012
On this particular occasion, I believe Reggie Miller got caught talking out of his ass on the arena issue.
I was really hoping he would take that Pacer front office position during the offseason.
Wonderchild - February 10, 2012
when has Reggie not talked out of his ass?
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
He does often, I just seemed to catch it more because I know more about the Kings than any other NBA team.
He really is a terrible play-by-play guy. I hope TNT realizes this soon.
Wonderchild - February 10, 2012
no way they haven't realized it

Carl - February 10, 2012
I didn't go to the game, so I saw it
And it really pissed me off. Our lone chance to be on national TV and they go and mess up on all our Arena info.
Sheryl Miller interviewed KJ at the end of the first, and she asked him about the failed arena vote. Perhaps she’d gotten it confused with the failed Strong Major vote? Who knows. But KJ, of course, corrected her and said no arena vote had been voted down and he was confident and such.
Flip to the commentators. Chris was asked about how he felt about the Sacramento situation. Webber said he loved Sacramento, but he was very worried about the “failed vote”, and that it would take “a miracle” to keep the Kings in Sacramento. Webber said that… WEBBER!
And Reggie even went on to claim that KJ was “spinning” the news about the arena to make it sound not-so-bad. Utterly ridiculous!
Of course, everyone started spamming the TNT twitter with the truth, but all we got was Webber SOMEWHAT correcting himself, saying he’d been wrong about the recent vote, and had heard everything had gone south from some fans in Sacramento. But no correction, no one saying the vote had passed, nothing more than a quick blurb about it from Webber.
This infuriates me. I know it has no effect on the actual vote, but at least give KJ credit! And don’t seel it short and say it’ll take “a miracle” to get this done! The Millers didn’t do ANY research, and even Webber couldn’t be bothered to check out his facts.
LightningStrike5 - February 10, 2012
TNT absolutely messed that up
I was listening to Grant on the way home and he was ripping TNT a new one for their lack of knowledge on the situation. The funny thing is he said that he interviewed Kevin Harlen before the game and he said Webber was on top of the whole arena situation. Not sure what went wrong with him, but Grant said he is in contact with Webber and wants to get an interview with him later today.
Kingsfan916 - February 10, 2012
TNT completely messed it up.
I was so upset about it when I watched the tape today. But to see C-Webb hang up on Grant when he was trying to correct him only infuriated me more. We wanted C-Webb there last night, but getting the information wrong, then not taking adequate steps to get it right feels like a slap in the face.

Best game I've ever been to
My 10 year old son & I usually go to 3-5 games a season since he probably 4 or 5 years old. He agreed this was the best one.
I’m so proud of thus team & so proud of the fans. It was a great atmosphere. We had a blast!
These are the type of moments with my son that would be robbed of me if we couldn’t keep the team. We can barely afford to go to Arco a few times a year we damn sure couldn’t afford to travel for events & games on a regular basis. This arena deal is more than just basketball. It’s about great times with the people you care about.
Anyways back to the game. I really wish Donte was a better player. I want him to be so bad. He has a great spirit about him & seems to love the city & the team. If he could just give us 10-12 points, 5 rebounds, shoot 42-45 percent a game, while playing great defense he could start on this team for the next 3-4 years. It’s really a shame he can’t put it together for more than 1 game at a time.
I’m happy to see JT come around. JT, Donte, & Cold Blooded provide this team with so much energy.
JJ Hickson drives me nuts! He can put up some decent numbers but he fumbles the ball so much. He had at least 3 fumbles in his 9 minutes.
DMC & Reke can be a tandem like Westbrook & Durant. It’s Coach Smart’s job to help get them there & he is doing a great job. As much as I like Sloan I don’t know that he has 1/2 the energy or patience Smart has to coach this young team. It would be nice to have a young coach grow with this young team.
Playoffs are a long shot but that doesn’t mean this team should give up until they are mathematically eliminated. I would be happy as a fan with great effort every night & finishing better than the Suns & Warriors in the Pac Div. That would be success IMO.
Sorry for the rambling, random thoughts. Just super excited even the day after. Have a good day fellow Kings fans!

Went to the game last night!!!
Originally had tickets for row P but at the last minute I upgraded to 3 rows behind the bench and it was AMAZING!!! The loudest SAC-RA-MENTO chant came late in the 4th when Tyreke was shooting free throws…I was like, “we are at the free throw line, we need to be quiet”…but the chants were so loud and great that you couldn’t help but join along. It didn’t matter because he sank both shots which leads me to believe that we need to get the Sacramento chant going every time he is at the line :)
I think I took the good times for granted because last night was AWESOME!!! Best part of the game

kinglet - February 10, 2012
Plays of the game for me
1. Donté driving to the hoop, drawing Ibaka’s sixth foul, and getting two free throws, rather than settling for an outside jumper. Put the kings up 100-99. (I think someone is coaching him now)
2. IT causing the turnover soon after that, while playing great DEFENSE on Westbrook.
It was hard to pick a player of the game, because there were so many heroes. Who says there is no “W” in “TEAM”?
kinglet - February 10, 2012
ha ha, did you see how mad Ibaka got after he fouled out? The Kings were clearly under his skin at that moment.
DiegoKing - February 10, 2012
Yeah that was great to see after watching him dance around after each block
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
Cuz and him had been tossling the previous couple possessions...
And Serge was clearly starting to get frustrated.
But to be fair to him on the foul out, there really didn’t seem to be much contact to Donte on that play.
unfair weather - February 10, 2012
If Ibaka fouled out, then Pekovich should have been charged with attempted murder the other night.
VenomySnicket - February 10, 2012
Very true
Pekovich was definitely getting away with anything and everything. I still think the non calls on him lost us that game.
LOUiECOG - February 10, 2012
Those nights will happen. Need to play through them.
SPTSJUNKIE - February 10, 2012
Would like to see DMC take that 10-15 foot jumper when they give it to him.
He passed up a few of them and put the ball on the floor and drove. Needs to be aware of guys like Ibaka, and know that shot can open things up in the lane.
Still so fired up!
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
I like him driving to the hoop...
I just want to see him take it stronger…tired of seeing double pump layup attempts from your 6’11" Center.
khoganso - February 10, 2012
His mid range jumper has been very consistant this season
But I agree, he does play below the rim more than he should.

That is something that Chris mentioned
And I agree.

Aykis16 - February 10, 2012

at this point it almost seems like it has to be some time of coaching decision ("Pass the ball 5 times!")
it’s either that or it’s a crutch and I have a hard time believing it’s a crutch given it sure seemed like he liked shooting it whenever open before. But who knows.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
Maybe, but it didn't really look like he was looking to pass when he drove.
It could’ve been Smart knowing he can get by Perk and told him to drive when he had that matchup. Just needs to be aware of a good weakside shot blocker.
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
A Whiteside shotblocker?
LOUiECOG - February 10, 2012
Side note
I wasn’t expecting DMC to make the All-star game but I don’t see how Marc Gasol makes it over him. If Memphis had a good record I’d be fine with it but they’re barely at .500 & not even in the top 8 in the west. DMC’s number are 15.4 pts, 11.4 reb, 1.4 blk, PER 20.62
Gasol’s numbers 15 pts, 10.2 reb, 2.2 blk, PER 19.38
I’m not really saying DMC should have gone over Gasol but it’s interesting to see he’s putting up All-star numbers.

Wonderchild - February 10, 2012
All in all, I would rather have Cousins on my team than Gasol...
Maybe next year All-Star Team might be within Cousin’s grasp.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
I'm thinking this will be the last year in a long while that DMC won't make the All-Star team.
DiegoKing - February 10, 2012
West is tough
Lots of good bigs. DMC just needs to clean a few things up, and get the team to a better record and he’s in.
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
Plus it's likely that Dwight Howard will be in the west next year.
LOUiECOG - February 10, 2012

LOUiECOG - February 10, 2012
yes, its the lesser of two evils i guess.

Paul Millsap was deserving as well.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012

Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
so many damn powerforwards in the west clogging it up
you really do need to have a good record to seperate yourself from the herd and even then you run the risk of coaches giving it to the vet because they are treated a little different
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
You don't get into the All-Star game playing for a bad team
unless you put up truly ridiculous numbers, like Kevin Love and Blake Griffin did last year.
At his rate of growth though, I could see DeMarcus making it next year easily.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012
Do you think the widespread (although misunderstood) attitude stories
prevent him from being considered?
khoganso - February 10, 2012
I think his point about playing for a bad team is the biggest thing going against him
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Plenty of players with attitude stories/issues get put in All-Star game if they're good enough.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012
I feel his "problems" have been blown out of proportion
by the national media. Even after the game Chuck and Shaq were talking about it. Anytime anyone in the National Media is talking about Cousins they seem to lead with his attitude problems before they get to his talent. I just feel that the negative connotations have effected Cousins much more than other players.
khoganso - February 10, 2012
Of course they get blown out of proportion
I honestly don’t care much about what the national media thinks about this team. I know for myself that I love this team no matter what, and I also know I and most Kings fans have a greater knowledge and awareness of what is going on with the team and the city than a bunch of guys who only watch the Kings the one night a year they’re on national TV.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012
That all may be true
But it’s nothing new. Cousins really made his own bed in this regard.
If he continues to behave and play the way he has, those concerns will disappear over time, even with the national media.
otis29 - February 10, 2012
It'll take at least another year though.
Even if they made the playoffs this year, all the announcers would talk about is his attitude.
LOUiECOG - February 10, 2012
That was part of my point
Gasol plays on a “bad” team as of right now. We all know they can be good when Z-Bo comes back but right now they’re only a few spots ahead of us in the standings.
Allbenji - February 10, 2012 via mobile
He's on a playoff team.

After coming home hoarse from the game
I decided to watch “just a few minutes on my DVR”
I ended up watching the whole damn thing!
Great night, my wife said how she really misses when almost every game was almost that loud. My reply? If they won some damn games we’d see it all the time! Ahhh for the days we had a complete roster, a starting caliber SF.
You can’t blame the crowd for not getting into all the chants, we were busy cheering the f-ing winning!
lietothegirls - February 10, 2012
It was interesting to see the Kings continue to take the ball inside.
In spite of 17 blocked shots by OKC, they had 60 points in the paint. Great coaching, I think.
kinglet - February 10, 2012
My notes on the game, adding to the above comments
I really liked the defense on Kevin Durant all night. I think he only got 2 layups (both in the 1st half). And he really got pushed away from the basket when he was battling for position, having to catch the ball near the 3pt line a lot.
Any game we play the Thunder and Westbrook has 7 more shot attempts than Durant, I will be happy. There is no way this should ever happen.
Also like the Ast/TO ratio for both teams tonight. 21/12 Kings, and 13/23 for OKC. Also 13 steals for the Kings, 4 from Tyreke (One was an awesome pick on Westbrook for a transition layup!!)
Bench came up big tonight. Nobody in particular, but it was nice to see all 5 bench players come in and contribute, leaving both Evans and Thornton < 40 minutes.
Also we were +4 on fastbreak points and +26 on Points in the paint (60 to 34!!)
Wonderchild - February 10, 2012
+1 According to Hoopdata
Durant was 4-6 inside 15 feet. 5-13 outside 15 feet. I’ll take that shot selection against us any day
Wonderchild - February 10, 2012
KOBE
Shizzo - February 10, 2012
if u make it 3/6 inside and 5/17 outside
Shizzo - February 10, 2012
Thunder's offense really reminded me of Westphal's Kings
Except with the talent to actually pull it off.
Lots of isos and drive-and-kick to shooters spotted up.
Lots of tough shots, too. Except they’ve got guys that will make them.
unfair weather - February 10, 2012
Agreed. They are one of the best teams in the league right now, but they could be even better if they played off each other more instead of basically against each other.
vikinginferno - February 10, 2012
yeah they rely on iso a ton
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012

HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
I'll follow suit
Judging by the four rec’s (so far), there’s a few of us around here that are Fallout geeks. After the third Zelda title, Fallout 3 is probably my favorite game of all time.
Olde Greg - February 10, 2012
Great write-up as usual, Aykis, but I think this is one of your best.
The title is great, the parallel you drew between people who didn’t think the team would be here now and those who thought we would lose the game last night, insightful. I count myself in both those groups and still amazed the team is still here and still in wonderment they won last night.
A few random observations, most have already been mentioned:
The crowd was fantastic, with very few empty seats. The crowd energy and team energy complemented each other. It was a consistent and steady effort on both parts. As has been mentioned, no one player stood out, it was a team effort.
I don’t think I have ever seen so many fantastic blocks in a game. Unfortunately, it was from the opposing team. What a way to suck the energy out of the moment.
I mentioned yesterday that my guest has never been to an NBA basketball game, although he has season tickets for the 49ers. He knew nothing about any of the players on the floor. He was blown away by the blackout and glow sticks. He noticed the Thunder is a better team, commenting on the accuracy and smoothness of their 3 point shots. His favorite player: Isaiah Thomas. He loved the energy he brought to the floor.
There were lots of little micro-moments that brought the crowd to their feet and got the momentum of the crowd energy going.
Although the crowd wasn’t as loud as the Here We Stay night, I felt like the crowd was more in tune with was was happening on the floor. It did seem like we were having some effect on defense, with the Thunder struggling near the end of the fourth.
Durant and Westbrook were like ice making basket after basket. But as Exhibit pointed out above, we won because of the continual effort of our team. We were scrappier and out- hustled. We beat a better team last night and it felt good.

This is not the same team that Westphal coached
There is actually a system in place. The team is playing together. They are running plays. They are moving off the ball. Wow…Just wow. As a result, I am not walking around with a permanent palm imprint on my forehead.
I am getting ahead of myself, but Keith Smart and his staff have been fantastic, and the team is clearly buying what they are selling.
LionTech - February 10, 2012
I dunno if there is much of a system
but they at least are playing to some strengths versus playing to zero strengths
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
There are glimpses
Fairly often now I see actual plaaaays being run.
Tyreke is doing a little better all the time getting up the court and into the offense, he needs to push even harder, he can alway back off.
lietothegirls - February 10, 2012
So much this
…and spacing.
I lost track during the game but in the first half, it seemed like nearly every possession the Kings had the ball up court and were initiating the offense with 18-20 seconds on the shot clock. That (1) gives you some easy looks before the defense sets, (2) makes the opponent burn energy running back on defense, and (3) gives you time to run a secondary play if the defense takes away your first option, and (4) makes the opponent burn even more energy playing defense for a full 20 seconds.
markdog333 - February 10, 2012
PLAYOFFS
The TNT crew had a few great quotes and Reggie wasn’t talking out of his ass when he made mention that the Kinds should play like this every game not just the Natl TV ones. And the Playoffs aren’t a long shot at all. The Kings are 4games back.
kuhreem - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Nope he's still talking out his ass on that
We’ve played well in all the last 5 games, not just the nationally televised one.

7 games
we’ve won 4 of our last 5, but have only lost by an average of 2.6 points in the 3 losses of our last 7 games.

Well.. played well and have a chance to win are different stories
We’ve had a chance to win our last 7 games!
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Playing well is a relative term
If we were a Championship contender like the Thunder, we’d be a bit concerned with our performance in the last few games, even though we picked up wins.
But we are not at that level, so just staying consistently competitive, showing progress, and picking up the majority of the wins we ought to is enough at this point.

Westbrook
Is the biggest ball hog I’ve seen that plays point guard. I don’t want to say this is always going to hold the Thunder back because he’s young and can still improve, but Durant should be getting around 10 more shots than him every game. He kept us in the game along with our energy and great play. I love this team, I’m telling you a trade at the deadline for a complimentary player and our draft pick next year and were off to the playoffs for awhile. Its great to have coach Smart, he had already verbally agreed to join Dallas’s coaching staff but took the opportunity in Sac instead because of the chance to become the head coach, great play coach.

Allen Iverson sez:
Westbrook? We talking about Westbrook?
unfair weather - February 10, 2012
The only "growing" Westbrook needs to do is the area between his ears.
That guy made at least 5-6 bone-headed plays last night that made me really happy he isn’t on the Kings.
Wonderchild - February 10, 2012
Think about it though
He’s only 14 months older than Tyreke. And he’s got entirely different pressures – namely, trying to get a championsip team over the top.
Westbrook’s an amazing talent, and an incredible athlete. I love watching him play, and accept that he’s not a finished product.
otis29 - February 10, 2012
i love watching him too
Because his athleticism is unmatched imo. If he’s a pg he should know Durant is the man on offense and work off of him, but hes so determined to score all the time. He’ll probably get better at distributing but I think that’s always going to be an issue with him.
Chent - February 10, 2012 via mobile
This logic is mindnumbingly silly
Russell Westbrook is in the 4th year of his NBA contract, and isn’t even 24 years old. He’s already made two All-Star teams and made the All-NBA 2nd team last year. He hasn’t missed a single game in his career to date. He has improved his shooting % in every year he’s been in the league. He has taken on the role of being a point guard and embraced it, last year averaging over 8 assists, and having a career assist rate of 36.0%.
I would LOVE to have him on our team.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012
I think the expectation level of the Thunder now is causing people to nitpick his game
I mean, that’s the only way you can explain people comparing Tyreke favorably to him. I love me some Tyreke, but he’s not nearly playing at Westbrook’s level yet.
otis29 - February 10, 2012
I did not specifically say I didn't want Westbrook on the Kings, but I can see how that was misconstrued
I specifically meant that if I was on the Thunder blog last night, I would be blaming the loss last night on him more than anyone else on that team. I mean, two charges in transition when he could make an easy pass for an easy dunk each time. He took 7 more shots than Durant (shoudn’t happen ever IMO), only 3 FTAs, had 3 assists to 6 TOs, and often chose to ISO rather than run a play for the offense. Over all this season, his assists are a way down (5.8 compared to 8.0 and 8.2 the last two seasons), and his AST/TO ratio is also way down as a result (1.33 compared to 2+ the last two seasons).
That said, his explosiveness is second to none in this league. He is only 24, and will be a perennial all-star in this league, and has been an absolute workhorse his entire career thus far. His numbers are not inflated at all by having another superstar talent on his team (Durant), and probably would not suffer one bit if these two somehow seperated in the future.
Wonderchild - February 10, 2012
Ugh I know he's good, but damn he annoys me. Can't stand the guy.
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
im also a little
Bit of a hater on him 2. He’s soo annoying, but if I was as gifted as him I would probably be the same way.
Chent - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Reminds me of this guy:
caseycheesecake - February 10, 2012
Hes great yea
But when your the pg and you’re taking 26 shots while the best scorer in the league is on your team and he only gets 19, that’s not embracing the pg position. Of course you would take him on this team, who wouldn’t? To me he is just a ball hogging pg, that doesn’t mean he won’t be great or isn’t already. He has the best scorer in the league on his team and I think he needs to defer a lot of those shots to him, that’s a little issue I see with him, and turnovers.
Chent - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Durant should definitely be shooting more
But again, it’s that ongoing debate of needing to have a “traditional” point guard. I disagree that Westbrook needs to do much more than maybe tweak his game slightly.
OKC made it to the conference finals last season with one of the youngest rosters in the league. They’re clearly one of the best teams in the league this season.
I don’t see any reason Westbrook and Durant won’t be able to figure out the balance of power between them over time.
otis29 - February 10, 2012
It's an overstated problem anyways.
With all that offensive talent, the Thunder almost score at will — regardless of which one of their three scorers is shooting.
What they need to stop is guys like Monta Ellis popping off 50 against them.
unfair weather - February 10, 2012
well we beat them
So were better.. But I wonder, everyone on TNT was saying they need a big man to be able to score down low for them to win a championship, I don’t know if I agree with that.
Chent - February 10, 2012 via mobile
+1
Dallas didn’t have a low-post threat. Miami doesn’t, Boston doesn’t, OKC doesn’t…
caseycheesecake - February 10, 2012
Really
Dallas had Dirk. He posted a lot. May not have been Shaq, but definitely diversified Dallas’ attack so it wasn’t all perimeter oriented.
Boston had KG as a low post threat back when they were a legitimate contender.
Miami has both Bosh and James who is posting up more. Although, when you have Wade and James it’s like having Jordan and Pippen – changes the rules a bit.
I think if you have two of the top 5 players you can get away without a good low post threat, but outside of Jordan’s Bulls the previous champs were:
Dallas (Dirk)
LA (Gasol & Bynum)
Boston (Garnett)
Spurs (Duncan)
Heat (Shaq)
Pistons (Rasheed Wallace)
Rockets (Olajuwon)
Lakers (Shaq)
OKC might break the trend, but I don’t think the announcers were overstating the importance of having a good low post threat.
SPTSJUNKIE - February 10, 2012
I was speaking in present tense.
and presently, Dirk and Bosh aren’t low post threats, IMO.
caseycheesecake - February 10, 2012
Yeah, well in the present
If Dirk isn’t playing the same way he was in that last years’ playoffs run, Dallas isn’t sniffing a championship
Scirocco - February 10, 2012
LeBron absolutely fills that role for them, when need be
As does Bosh pending matchups. Especially during the regular rotations, when LeBron and Wade are on the bench, Bosh is 100% playing out of the mid to low post.
Shizzo - February 10, 2012

Free tacos reminds me of when....
back in the day, the Kings had to score 110 and win to get free tacos (at the Bell?) . They were at 109 in a blowout win and Tizzy had the ball on the baseline in the frontcourt. The crowd started screaming at him because they wanted their free tacos. He obliged, shot a 15 footer, and buried it. Cue fanatical crowd noise…..
FolsomAndy - February 10, 2012
and by the way
Last night was indicative of what it was like most every night of the 7+ years of sellouts.
With a crowd like that, this team should lose only a few games at home for the rest of the season.
FolsomAndy - February 10, 2012
I just remember the free Western Bacon Cheeseburgers.
caseycheesecake - February 10, 2012
AWESOME win!!
man what a great game that was! everything finally came together. the spacing was good. they showed maturity and grit. the fast break was ran efficiently. even though the offense wasn’t lights out, their effort on defense made up for it. even for that small stretch when it seemed like OKC was going to run away with it, they turned it around and got it done. this was the very definition of a team win.
they’ve won 4 out of their last 5. 2 of those wins against quality playoff caliber teams. phoenix is coming up tomorrow which should be a solid chance to make that 5 out of 6… i love it. can’t wait to see this team improve some more.
on a side note i love how the TNT guys attribute this win to just being because the kings were motivated by national television. nothing to do with playing well. if that’s the case, why weren’t the thunder more motivated to commit less turnovers and win this game too? eff off! for one night just give credit where credit is due.
MIKELOOP - February 10, 2012
Such an amazing game last night
I really didn’t expect us to win, considering how good OKC is, but I was expecting a close game. Needless to say, it wildly exceeded my expectations. I wish so much I could’ve been there but those who were there absolutely killed it. Definitely made me proud to be a Kings fan.
By the way, I have to ask…how many of you who were there have no voice this morning?
Christina_J - February 10, 2012
I barely have a voice. Which kinda sucks, it means that I could've yelled more ;)
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
Best answer ever! ;)
It feels somewhat ironic that the reason I couldn’t go to the game and presumably lose my voice from screaming/cheering is my Voice and Resonance Disorders class, lol. As a future speech pathologist I should know better than abusing my voice, but I can’t help it when I’m at games, obviously.

My mind is still reeling from last night. I feel like I need a support group to let all the excitement out.
This was honestly one of the most amazing and magical nights I had ever had as a Kings fan. Being from SF, when the Kings were in their glory days, I never got the chance to watch them play at Arco, settling instead for watching them play the Warriors at Oracle. I feel like last night made up for all the missed games. i can’t imagine a better night.
I thought I was having an out of body experience when the intro with the glow sticks was going on. It looked absolutely incredible. It really is a shame that the nation didn’t get to see how that looked.
I literally started to lose my voice towards the end of the first quarter, and my head was pounding but it was all worth it. I found a different pitch to scream at, and I told myself that I would keep screaming until no sound came out.
Waiting to get in, there was a group of female Thunder fans behind me too, and they had to be some of the dumbest people alive. “Oh, are the Kings going somewhere?” “I’m not really a Thunder fan, I’m from the Bay so I’m a Warriors fan.” “Well, I don’t want the Kings to leave because then I can’t watch the Thunder.” I was seething and shot them ever dirty look I had whenever they said something mind-numbingly stupid. There were a few Thunder fans around me (section 122), but only 1 was brave enough to wear a stupid Westbrook jersey. And I’ll be honest, a lot of my screams were pointed in that direction. He had the audacity to stand up and cheer, and let me tell you, I wasn’t the only one in the section trying to drown out his yells. (He eventually left towards the end of the game – boo hoo for him).
After the game, I hung around the players exit to try and see people. I saw Hassan, Honeycutt, and Cisco. Bobby Jackson came out and I asked him if it reminded him of the old days, and he said “sounded like it, didn’t it?” with a big smile on his face. Keith Smart eventually came out and he was beaming. I saw Petrie walk by, and then Sam Amick, who was nice enough to stop by and talk with us for a few minutes. I asked him about the arena situation and his thoughts. He said he didn’t know, that it looked good but you never know what could happen. And even if it does get done, he doesn’t know if the Maloof’s have the money to put up in order to be tenants. In which I reply, “Here we Burkle?” and he chuckled and said “You never know”. He also said that he’s been ripping on Petrie for his recent decisions, but doesn’t know if his crappy decisions have been because he has no Maloof money to spend. Petrie is so secretive that he won’t even be honest off the record, which apparently most GM’s will do.

caseycheesecake - February 10, 2012

SPTSJUNKIE - February 10, 2012
I agree and I agree with Shaq's statement
Which is why I had to throw that out there. He did give the Kings some credit
From what I’ve heard his tone changed throughout the entire game
Start of the game: Kings have no chance to win
Half time: Thunder got caught sleeping because they are playing a shitty team. They’ll come back and win
Post game: If the Kings continue to play like this they’ll make the playoffs.

HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
Well...
He actually was implying that there was no way they would be able to play like this every night. He’s correct in the statement.
What he actually said was if they had been playing with this effort since the start of the season, they’d likely be in the playoffs. However, then he asked can they keep this up every game and then he didn’t get to answer that as Kenny answered for him and nobody disagreed.

TNT Should Hear from Us - LOUD AND CLEAR
I think we should rain down emails, tweets, etc, on TNT, demaning they recant their report from last night, and admit that what we heard and saw was nothing short of shoddy journalism.
Darren King - February 10, 2012
Email Addresses, etc.
Anybody have the contact info to make this happen?
Darren King - February 10, 2012
This is a stupid and pointless exercise in dumb
It doesn’t matter. Regardless, Sac fans showed their support and showed it’s an NBA city. Other than that, Stern, Bennet, any relocation committee members, and the Burkle’s of the world know what’s happening politically. Everyone local knows what is happening. They shouldn’t have screwed it up, but it’s not the end of the world and emailing and tweeting TNT on it is a pointless distraction.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
A Distraction From What?
I totally disagree. A distraction from what? The point is, they got the story BACKWARDS. Seriously. They reported a positive as a negative. That’s shoddy journalism and should be called out as such.
Darren King - February 10, 2012
rock on and spend your time raging on TNT over that
but you’d be much better off sending a letter or email to council members Pannel and Cohen and attending either the February 14th meeting and the February 28th one. Obviously, yes you can do all of this and at the same time go tweet crazy with TNT over a basketball broadcast screw-up but one of those things will be utterly meaningless.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
Agree
SPTSJUNKIE - February 10, 2012
Two Issues: Don't Confuse Them
Please understand there are two different issues here. If one of those issues doesn’t matter to you, fine. But don’t call it “utterly meaningless”. Did what TNT did negatively impact the arena developments? No. But was it shoddy journalism that misrepresented our local situation to an entire national audience? Yes.
Don’t call that “utterly meaningless” – unless you routinely excuse such a blatant lack of professional standards and execution.
Darren King - February 10, 2012
I completely agree with you Darren. TNT really blew the journalism.
But, I also think Wally has a point. There are a lot of ways to use our energy. I don’t want to speak for Wally, but I think what he is talking about is where to put our focus and energy to get the most benefit. The main focus is what is happening right here in Sacramento. That should be our main focus.

It's utterly meaningless
If I cared so about such trivial screw-ups on national sports broadcasts I would be writing 8 letters a day. So yes, I do think it is utterly meaningless and all it does is created a lot of unnecessary fire and rage with nowhere to go but bad locally.

This is not a big deal
…it was a simple mistake, Reggie and C-Webb not realizing that a “no” vote in this case was a good thing.
They heard the “no” vote and BS’ed from there. Simple mistake. Anyone that knows anything about what is going on would just realize that they had misspoke and move on.
Wonderchild - February 10, 2012
You are wrong
Reggie Miller stated that Kevin Johnson was “spinning.” It was the overall dismissive, fait-accompli crap that has everyone steamed. The broadcasters’ unbelievable arrogance doesn’t help either.
LionTech - February 10, 2012
Arrogant and ignorant
A nice combination.
They were also talking about Cousins’ effort as though it were some aberration and clearly had no idea he leads the league in charges and is among the rebounding leaders.
Overall, just an abortion of a telecast.
lchristmas - February 10, 2012 via Android app
It was a horrible telecast. At least I was forewarned before I watched it,
but it still p*ssed me off, nevertheless. Reggie drove me crazy. Everytime the Thunder made a basket, he just gushed over it; yet tended to minimize the accomplishments of the Kings. Made me sick.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
I don't mind a writing campaign
but at this point there are 9 people who have the future of Sacramento in their hands and that should be our focus. By the time of TNTs game next Thurday I think the Arena’s fate will be 90% a done deal, one direction or the other.
Everybody get their butts to the city council meeting. Skip school, call in sick to your job, tell your wife you have to leave for a few hours to cheat with another woman, just get there.
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
Would agree
however, as a bit of an aside, I think the fate of the Arena is far from determined by next Thursday
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
of course by then who knows all the stuff we have no clue about might finally come to the surface
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
In my mind
it they approve RFP its a 90% done deal. I do not believe it will come in under 220 .
Worries about the number of years can be appeased. So to me, the major road blocks will be done. Failure to request an RFP means its 90% over except if its a delay and not a refusal. That’s how I see it.
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
oh failure to request an RFP it's 99.9% over and I think it's an absolute certainty it will go through okay
it’s just we have no clue on the years, the terms, or even what parts of the city’s parking they will end up deciding to lease and that stuff matters for the price (and what we can apply all of the cash too). Then you still have to negotiate with the NBA and Maloofs and there is still a gaping funding hole left to be filled after that.
I would bet lots of money on 5 Yes votes on February 14th. I have no fear of that going bad (granted might just be 5 votes but still). If in negotiating on the parking they get the lease years down to 30 years I would bet lots and lots of money on 5 Yes votes on February 28th but zero clue how they are going to fill the rest of the gap. Either way, they won’t have that figured out yet and there is going to be a 60 day extension. It’s going to be awful hard to get 5 Yes votes on February 28th with a 50 year lease although yeah that would likely shrink the gap a bit.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
I don't believe there is a significant gap
I believe what most people are calling the gap are funds not yet accounted for by the general public.
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
funds = streams
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
well yeah I am sure there are plans
but just for instance, covering the parking revenue streams: if they tried to get $9 million annually of revenue streams from the arena that is going to take some serious negotiating especially if the Maloofs are having to pay rent (whether it’s paying back the NBA or to the City).
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
nevertheless though, try it
although would have to think this is where the 2% Transit Occupancy Tax factors in
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
Worse case
a 4-5 $ ticket surcharge would generate the money, but I don’t think they would need it from all one source
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
I was probably a buck too high on that 3-4 $
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
as a consumer, there is nothing wrong at all with a ticket surcharge
don’t listen to the people saying it will make it too expensive. AEG and whoever owns the Kings will charge as much as they can regardless. If they need to lower the price because it’s too high and people aren’t coming, they will lower it. Essentially, it’s them financing the construction. So for consumers, there really is no worse case if the surcharge is higher.
However, it’s bad to AEG and NBA/Kings Owners because they see it as a chunk of the revenue streams being taken from them. If the city could somehow get them to pay $9 million, good for the city.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
I will gladly pay a ticket surcharge
if it’s the difference between me going to a game in Sacramento, or pricing out hotels/travel expenses to go watch a game
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
seriously, don't worry about a ticket surcharge
nobody should
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
you are so right
want2win - February 10, 2012 via mobile
you are so right
want2win - February 10, 2012 via mobile
No they don't need it all from one revenue source
but it’s going to be hard to get all $9 million just from arena revenues with AEG and the NBA/Kings Owners speaking up. That’s a lot of money. That’s the equivalent of AEG/KIngs Owners essentially backing a $138 million municipal bond at a 5% with payments over 30 years. And yes that’s on top of the already rumored about $130 million combined from those parties.
Now obviously, that would be awesome. It would be a very good thing. I just don’t know if we should be expecting that especially considering these parties are already looking at minimal parking revenues with the new arena. Again, it would be awesome and wouldn’t fault the city for trying, but I am not holding by breadthe on it and I don’t think all of this stuff has been hashed out yet given the parkign situation hasn’t been dealt with yet.

HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Never ever read the SacBee comments.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
I have been to a lot of Kings games in my life and that might have been best one
It was the best regular season game I have ever been too and rivaled a lot of the playoff ones I have attended. That place was sooo loud at the end of the game that it reminded me of the old days. I still haven’t got to see what it sounded like on TV, but it was rocking inside. I’ve gone to the last two games and they have both been awesome. The amount of passion they are playing with right now is really making it hard on me to not want to go to every game. I just bought tickets for tomorrow night and hopefully they bring it. Great job to all the Kings fans that attended the game last night, the crowd really helped that team out last night. Go Kings!
elSAVinator - February 10, 2012
CWEBB is on Grant now addressing the issue!
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
ooo damn, C-Webb sounds PISSED at Grant!
They’re fighting now
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
Annnnd C-Webb hung up on Grant
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
Dammit, I missed it!
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Basically
C-Webb was offended because he feels he has done right by the city of Sacramento. And he feels that Grant and Jodi were wrong for focusing on the wrong information he mistakenly put out there. And that he deserves better treatment.
He was saying something to the effect of “I got Jodi calling me wanting to talk, and I thought it was about me putting the jersey back on and how good that was. But no, you want to talk about how I messed up. I don’t deserve that. If I said wrong information just tell me what I said wrong and correct me, don’t bash me and TNT like this.”
Then, he says that he felt so happy to put a jersey on, and that was the first time he had put a jersey on since he retired. Grant tries talking over him but Chris keeps going saying, this is my home, I would never want to do anything to hurt my city. But I’m not going to let GRANT talk about me like this. And he hangs up
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
Lost alot of respect for CWebb just now
Couldn’t believe what I was hearing from him. Just shocked at his arrogance and hubris. Unbelievable
monsterlxe - February 10, 2012
I honestly don't know what to think.
He was in the wrong, he shouldn’t have acted like that. He definitely came off defensive to start out with, which made me wonder why he was so angry to begin with.
But I can’t turn my back on him. I still feel like he’s done so much for the city and the team. People talking about not having him there when the new ESC opens is just crazy to me.
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
and I'll just submit all my previous comments on this non-issue
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
This is all being completely blown out of proportion
Who gives a shit that TNT and C-Webb made a mistake? It doesn’t even matter. The only people who matter are informed. If people were to get this upset every time TNT was misinformed on something, there would be a civil war right now solely due to Reggie Miller.
Aykis16 - February 10, 2012
Exactly... To me, it's a minor annoyance
It doesn’t effect us at all, it doesn’t hurt our chances at all, it really hasn’t done much more than piss off Grant and his listeners.
If anything it just goes to show that these ‘experts’ aren’t exactly experts. Don’t always swing off everything these ex-players say because they very well could be spreading misinformation
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
I don't even remember in grade school thinking players were experts
and I was a really gullible stupid kid.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
I agree
But people constantly say, “Charles said”, “Reggie said”, “Trent Dilfer said”.
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
okay, actually I kind of dig on what Trent says at times, not going to lie
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
Haha
He’s not bad. There is definitely a LOT worse. Just like throwing his name out when I can
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012

ina_118 - February 10, 2012
Chris acted like a punk - it was awful to hear. Very sad. Actually have to defend Grant here
folsomfella - February 10, 2012
I have to agree.
I love C-Webb but I wonder what got him so mad to start the phone call off at such an angry place.
Maybe he heard Grant’s rant first and got offended?
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
They baited him on the show with a lie about what they wanted to talk about it sounds like
Widowwolf - February 10, 2012
dunno if that's the case to be honest
Webber knew what he was doing when he came on the air.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012

Jaylee209 - February 10, 2012

Durrant is unreal
That was a big step in teams development
But we still have a long way to go….

HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012

ina_118 - February 10, 2012
I'm ready for it!
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Eh, wasn't as bad as I thought
Webber apparently feels like he was mislead on what he was going to talk about, he’s had many of run-ins with Grant.
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
This is very unfortunate.
We love C-Webb. He has been supportive of Sacramento, but he did mess up as did his colleagues on TNT. Too bad it has resulted in this misunderstanding.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
Webber went crazy on Grant's show
1 question about misinformation C-Webb does a diatribe and hangs up. Very weird.
If you get a chance to listen its a must hear.
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
Sorry didn't see it posted
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
It was very odd
Which is why I sort of don’t believe Grant when he said he was “100% truthful” on what he told Webber what he was going to talk about. Who knows, very weird.
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
That said, there's absolutely zero way that Webber didn't know before he went on that he messed up
I guess he could just be extremely embarrassed, in which case this wasn’t exactly the best way to fix it.
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
I agree
because his diatribe started before Grant even got the question all the qay out
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
Right? Something seems very off.
He doesn’t seem to have been fully aware of what the phone call was supposed to be about, despite what Grant says.
People that are calling in are turning on C-Webb real quick. WOW
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
Naw
most of them say they love him but that he was a real jerk…which he was. No defense for this one by Webb
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
Hasn't that's always kind of been Webber's M.O. anyways?
He can be extremely nice/kind/outgoing person, but he could also act like a jackass if you catch him on the wrong day.
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Definitely the WRONG day today then
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
There's getting defensive, and then there was that
As ElRon pointed out, Grant didn’t even finish his question before he started his diatribe.
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
It almost seemed like Webber was hoping Grant would ease him in to it all
Like let Webber talk about how great it was to put a Kings jersey on, say how great the town is, then they could ease in to it. However, Grant opened with it, said something a little more forward than he was hoping, I don’t know, whatever Grant said he instantly went into defensive mode.
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Oh lord.
Was this really as bad as it sounds? I don’t know where to go on this. C-Webb has done so much for this city, and I love the guy, but why couldn’t he take his own twitter advice and eat some humble pie?
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
I don't get this.
All Webber has to do is listen and admit there was a misunderstanding. Problem diffused.
What part of this am I missing?
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
My theory is that he heard Grant's rant before about the telecast and got offended
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
Makes sense. He was offended and wasn't able to hear anything else.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
Nope - why would Webber be listening to Grants show?
folsomfella - February 10, 2012
Totally reminded me of that time he went off on local media in the locker room
because there was some coverage about his personal life with Tyra Banks
dampania - February 10, 2012
To hear C. Webb's rant
http://t.co/wCrhqHyO
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Wow, just wow. C-Webb did not take the high road. Big disappointment.
I can’t believe I am taking Grant Napier’s position on this one.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
C-Webb seems more intent on defending himself than trying to get the story right.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
He's probably getting hammered at a professional level
And is getting defensive (as I’ve seen people do before when they botch something). Grant was running interviews prior from other network personalities saying how in tune with the Arena issue C-Webb was, and that he had briefed them in morning meetings of all the latest details.
Quite simply, that portion of the broadcast research was Webb’s, that’s why he was assigned the gig, and he was way negligent on it.
He’s probably taking heat from people a lot more important than Grant.
unfair weather - February 10, 2012
As well he should be. He blew it big time. But, it wasn't just him Reggie was just as bad.
There is an easy fix. Just correct it and report is accurately. I don’t get why that is so hard.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
Right but Reggie, Cheryl, and the rest of the TNT staff got their info from Webb.
He was the one that briefed them in the morning meeting.
It sounds like they thought they had an insider of the issue.
unfair weather - February 10, 2012
It does sound like they thought they had some inside information, especially when they question the statement given by KJ. to Cheryl.
That should have been their first clue that maybe they didn’t have the story quite right.
Slam_Dunk - February 11, 2012
He didn't give Napear a chance to explain
Grant never finished his second question before Webb went on the defensive. He never got a full explanation and acted as if he was being offended just by being asked how he got misinformed. I love C-Webb, but this was a truly low point for him. Can’t defend him at all.
raiderking21 - February 10, 2012
So Grant never ranted and fumed on the radio prior to Webber calling?
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
oh he definitely did. That's what he did for the first few hours
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
That is probably a reason C-Webb came out defensive
Grant is who he is, I expected a little more class from C-Webb I guess.
raiderking21 - February 10, 2012
That's what I think. Grant has been pretty pissed the entire show. Even for Grant.
I was hoping that today’s show would be more about how amazing it was last night, but honestly most of it was talking about how angry he was about the mistakes that TNT and Chris made. Plus Grant asking people to call and and give their opinions on how terrible the telecast was by TNT.
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
I know Webb is an avid listener of Grant's show
thats why Tyra dumped him
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
Well deserved.

wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
People were seriously calling in and saying, "when the new arena opens, just stay home CWebb! We don't want you here!"
I am, pardon my french, but are you fucking kidding me? Bit extreme to say that over one phone call
ina_118 - February 10, 2012
I have a feeling those very same people will never know if he ever stepped foot in the new arena in the first place
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Grant poisons everything
the guy has zero concept of big picture. Never has and never will. Complete dope. Ruins everything that is fun. Just a big bag of suck.
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
this
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
To add
You can tell that C-Webb isn’t just pissed about this particular issue, and there’s some serious history there. I’ve always suspected that Napear’s not on many player’s Christmas card list.
otis29 - February 11, 2012
I'm sure he's on all their lists & gets the same card ever year
SPTSJUNKIE - February 11, 2012

ina_118 - February 11, 2012
Pretty sure he opened the show with it
and his 5:00pm rant was on it
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Peaches is just never happy, is he?
Not defending C-Webb. He should know what Grant is like by now. But seriously, with such a big win, the guy can’t just throw the question out there instead of getting super pissy about it?
Rec for Peaches as a baby :P
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
Grant did no wrong here ( ouch that hurts)
He asked a straight forward question that need to be asked.
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
Not the question, but
The way he goes about it. I mean, seriously, the way he rants, you think C-Webb killed a baby. It’s enough to get anyone pissed off!
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
Webb did not hear the rant
and if he did and it pissed him off he should never have come on the show. Grant’s rant was fine.
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
How do you know that?
otis29 - February 11, 2012
Did you actually listen to the conversation between Grant and Chris?
Because if you did, you would have heard that Chris never even gave Grant an opportunity to explain himself at all. Grant was trying to be reasonable with Chris, but Chris was a complete douche.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
I agree with you
But Peaches mishandled the confrontation too. When a guy goes on a rant, you let him vent and get it out of system, instead Douchebag Peaches get repeating himself. “DON’T HANG UP DON’T HANG UP…”
Why did Peaches assume he would hang up? He’s an idiot. He should have let him vent then they could have had a conversation. But still C-Webb was more in the wrong for acting like a baby.
bench_blob - February 10, 2012
I don't know how or why Peaches thought Chris was going to
hang up, but he seemed to sense it. Turned out; he was right. He probably should have let Chris vent, but I’m not sure whether that would have made any difference. Seemed like Chris was on his own agenda to say his piece and leave.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
This is one of those situations where no one was right
Grant’s rant beforehand, whether C-Webb heard it or not, was over-the-top and unnecessary.
C-Webb also came on defensive without giving Grant a chance to explain or even ask a question.
Unprofessional by both sides.
raiderking21 - February 10, 2012
I think he thought Chris was going to hang up
when Chris said something I am not going to come on and let you use your show……
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
yeah I think it was quite clear what Chris was doing
wallywagon11 - February 10, 2012
Does it take all that much (maybe for Grant it does)
But I would talk about it on the show, say that they were wrong! And lecture about that sort of reporting and why it shouldn’t happen, if there are ramifications, etc. But do it conversationally. And then talk to Webb, ease into it, but as him the questions! Tell him he made a mistake, and explain about the whole thing.
Grant jumps off the wall quicker than Batman on steroids when he’s ticked, and it isn’t productive.
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
Darko would not have gone crazy
ElRonToro - February 10, 2012
We're not talking about Darko and Grant in the same sentence.
unfair weather - February 10, 2012
Webber snubs Peaches
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
Again, did you actually listen to the conversation before you made these comments?
Or are you talking about how you would imagine the conversation going? Because, it doesn’t sound to me like you listened to the conversation between Chris and Grant.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
I heard the one between Chris and Grant, so you stop asking that:
However, I’m basing this off of the reactions board wide to Grant’s rant preceding his interaction with Webber, which I heard was incredibly livid.
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
That's why I ask. Unless Webb REALLY overreacted and got defensive quick
The only thing I can think of that could have set him off like that was hearing Grant ranting, and took it personally. I didn’t think how Grant entered that sole conversation was grounds for how Webb reacted. There must have been more.
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
I didn't hear Grant's rant, so I am only going off the conversation between
the two of them. Regardless of the rant, Chris is a journalist and should have responded in a mature manner, imo. If Grant would have launched into a rant when they were talking to each other, I could understand Chris’ reaction, but Grant was giving Chris every opportunity to discuss the issue further.
Slam_Dunk - February 10, 2012
Yeah. C-Webb should have handled it better. Agreed.
So we’ve both heard the interview, I didn’t tune in before because I was at work and only tuned in right when Webb went on. I wish someone had the rant before hand. I don’t remember if it was HL or someone who mentioned it, but apparently the entire show up to that point was Grant in full on fire mode.
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
Wow. C-Webb acted like a bitch. I side with Peaches on this one.
bench_blob - February 10, 2012
This is upsetting
AnkleMan - February 10, 2012
why does the peaches show always attract so much bitterness
AnkleMan - February 10, 2012
Am I the only one that watched the game on TV and wasn't concerned with the misunderstanding?
Crocoduck - February 10, 2012
Nope, I didn't care either
It only matters what happens here in the city council.
raiderking21 - February 10, 2012
In reality, the misunderstanding did not even lower our chances of getting a new arena by even 0.00000001%
HeuristicLineup - February 10, 2012
Yeah. This won't affect the deal getting done. Shoddy reporting, sure. Influence? Nada.
I’m sure Stern is paying much closer attention to this to let some false reporting even make him blink.
HarveySpecter - February 10, 2012
Yep, no biggie
Doesn’t really bother me at all, but I understand how this could have been upsetting to everyone that tuned into the game and was handed a sh*t sandwich by TNT. You hope to hear a little love during the one televised game of the year, and they crap all over you (and themselves). I give the clowns at TNT little credit, so I’m not really surprised or disappointed. Just a bunch of talking heads.
section214 - February 10, 2012
Yep basically my way of viewing this as well
Rec’d
raiderking21 - February 10, 2012
I think at one point almost all of them said it would be a shame if the Kings left Sac.
That was about all I was expecting to hear. The casual NBA fan that was tuning couldn’t care less and it didn’t make the night less awesome.

Yep. That sums it my feelings very well.

ive felt the same way since hearing the story
but its still not like it was a good thing either, just upsetting to see webber and peaches argue pointlessly
AnkleMan - February 10, 2012
Shame on Peaches
For making a big deal about a non-issue and sucking the fun out of a great night.
Thank you Adam Corolla podcast.

Exactly. This is on Grant. I'm siding with Weber here.
After listening to the call it’s obvious Grant led Weber to believe they were going to talk about Webb’s Sacramento connection, the jersey etc. etc – Webb was eager to talk about that and got blindsided by a sleazy journalist. Grant is just classless, Webb and Reggie corrected themselves on the broadcast, it was meaningless in the arena negotiations and Grant was just being his media whore self and doing his usual one-note rant, this time with TNT. I have a feeling Grant has done this to Webb before, hence the pent-up frustration from C-Webb.

Ditto. He should've focused on all the positive of the night.
It doesn’t ruin it, but it’s a quick way to subdue the Arco Thunder buzz I had going. I would’ve much rather have heard more from C-Webb what it was like for him to be back home, bu that’s just me shrug

Great game
They showed a lot of grit down the stretch and got the crowd into it. And they really turned up the D when it counted. Lots of stars on this night, and great night to be a Kings fan.
NewEraKings - February 10, 2012
Wait, did the Kings win the game last night?
I could have sworn we won a team defining statement game, giving us a critical win and moving us within striking distance of .500.
Yes, 50% of the posts here are about a verbal flub on TNT or a phone call on a radio show that most people here rip on.
It’s like we’ve been wandering through the desert looking for water. We finally find an oasis and instead of drinking the sweet, sweet liquid, we have veered off course chasing after a tumbleweed.

A wise Wally indeed
I just want enjoyment here now. Because as soon as we lose the second game of a back to back on the road, I’ll be wading through posts on how the sky is falling again.
