Marcus Thornton will be back on the court for the Sacramento Kings on Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers. Thornton tweeted a message indicating he'd been cleared by doctors after sitting a week-plus with a hematoma on his quad. He'd practiced with full contact on Wednesday, but needed medical clearance Thursday.
Thornton hasn't been terribly consistent in his 14 games this season, but according to the Institute of Small Sample Sizes, the Kings are 5-9 when he plays and 1-6 in his absences. That's quite a difference! There hasn't been word as to whether he'll start at two-guard between Tyreke Evans and John Salmons, but that'd be the expectation.
The Kings host Portland at 7 p.m. Pacific.

I know people are kind of down on MT these days
But I’m excited to see him back.
otis29 - February 2, 2012
He has played so little under Smart
As Evans’ and Cousins’ games have benefitted, I will be very interested to see if Thornton improves as well.
section214 - February 2, 2012
I don't know why anybody would be down
He’s our best scorer. He played hurt for quite a few games, that he probably shouldn’t have played in. He upgrades our talent level, and makes it so we don’t have to play Tyreke Evans 43 minutes a night just to remain competitive. If Marcus hadn’t missed a game this year and hadn’t been injured, I’d have our win total up by probably three wins (including the last two against Utah and Golden State)

The really funny thing about this is Thornton and Tyreke are basically the same scoring wise
Plyr: Thornton / Tyreke
Pts: 230 / 355
Gms: 14 / 21
Min: 483 / 757
PPG: 16.43 / 16.90
PPM .476 / .469
whereas
PPG=Points per game
PPM = Points per minute played
Widowwolf - February 2, 2012
Except Tyreke also rebounds and passes, plays defense and is (somewhat) running an offense
Marcus just goes straight tunnel vision on the floor
prowseinthehouse - February 2, 2012
Lol. Think that's why he said "scoring wise"
They get their points differently, but both score at a similar clip.
You’re right though, that Evans does a lot more for the team.
SPTSJUNKIE - February 2, 2012
Exactly right to both of you..I was more referring t Aykis’
Widowwolf - February 2, 2012
HORRAY!
I have him in four of my five fantasy leagues!!!
LightningStrike5 - February 2, 2012
Glad to have him back
Letsgokings13 - February 2, 2012
so glad to have him back
especially fantasy-wise.
Nickcarmondog - February 2, 2012
How are we playing the Blazers again! Lol. We are single handedly going to give them home court in the first round.
SPTSJUNKIE - February 2, 2012
Rise the Hot Hand, MT! Give 'em hell!
RJinFairOaks - February 2, 2012
I just hope he gets through the game without re-injuring it again.
A productive night is icing on the cake. And lets be real, he wont have to produce much to get to the level of what was given by the reserves to us in his absence.
sac_faithful - February 2, 2012
We will need him!!
Portland is here and it is going to get ugly…….GO KINGS!!
cowboyron96@yahoo.com - February 2, 2012
At what point does a small sample size
become enough of a sample size?
StevenG - February 2, 2012
When it is no longer small
HeuristicLineup - February 2, 2012
after the season is over
prowseinthehouse - February 2, 2012
It's not the size of your sample that's important -
It’s what you do with it.
section214 - February 2, 2012
Beat me by a fraction of a second. Lol. Now I have to do a serious reply.
SPTSJUNKIE - February 2, 2012
Hey,
I was serious.
section214 - February 2, 2012
you mean...
…like provide appropriate confidence bounds?
RJinFairOaks - February 2, 2012
How is this not already green! LMAO!
CowbellKings - February 2, 2012
You can’t make butter with a toothpick..
Widowwolf - February 2, 2012
This is why I love this place.
No /sarchasm
StevenG - February 2, 2012
When you take Cialis or Viagra , raise the hot….errrmmm..hand and yell “HERE WE RISE”
Widowwolf - February 2, 2012
With the 6th pick of the 2012 NBA draft,
the Sacramento Kings select Enzyte Cialis, Stretch 4, Italy.
section214 - February 2, 2012
Stretch 4
I’m done. Greene’d.
RJinFairOaks - February 2, 2012
That pick would be hard to pass up on, as long as your GM doesn't get soft at the last minute
SPTSJUNKIE - February 2, 2012
Or he develops a limp
section214 - February 2, 2012
Fans could get up for him. But until the pick is made, don't get excited prematurely.
SPTSJUNKIE - February 2, 2012
And if your excitement level is still in place after 4 hours, consult a doctor
But not a Kings doctor, for God’s sake!
section214 - February 2, 2012
Section FTW!
But don’t worry. The Kings have never given fans a reason to be excited for four straight hours.
SPTSJUNKIE - February 2, 2012
They normally get us excited, then leave us highly disappointed
HeuristicLineup - February 2, 2012
See, they do fit better in Blue than in Purple
RJinFairOaks - February 2, 2012
If they're blue or purple you better consult a doctor
SPTSJUNKIE - February 2, 2012
And then it was traded and we resigned Luther head for a 6.9 million dollar contract
Widowwolf - February 2, 2012
Flagged
HeuristicLineup - February 2, 2012
Agreed
Hit him with a gag order.
section214 - February 2, 2012
LOL…
Widowwolf - February 2, 2012
I prefer to yell
“RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!”" Oddly my wife is OK with this.
StevenG - February 2, 2012
better then “Release the Crayfish”
Widowwolf - February 2, 2012
Raise the Hot Jimmer!!!
Just be careful, I’ve heard that they may get Smart and Greene light a new law that would Outlaw showing your Whiteside to your Cousins
HeuristicLineup - February 2, 2012
In case you're actually looking for a serious answer
There’s a few statistics formulas to help determine adequate sample sizes based on confidence levels.
jveezy - February 2, 2012
When in doubt, go with 42
RJinFairOaks - February 2, 2012
What the Chuck?
HeuristicLineup - February 2, 2012
Whos down about having him back!!!!!111
trippin!!
yaboyrafa - February 2, 2012

CowbellKings - February 2, 2012
